Before any of you go on like the usual
"Only worry about this if you do illegal stuff"
"Its not that bad, the FBI are prollly not interested in you"
"You a terrorist? If not, then dont worry"

Blah blah

This is very real, has happend to a friend of mine, and anybody with enough knowledge can do this. And, i think my phone has been bugged as well. Figured id give the heads up. Idc if i do illegal things or not, im sorry i just dont find it to attractive to know somebody could be using my phone to spy on any conversation im having. Oh and btw, to all you texters (Like me) your texts can be hacked as well. That article is over a year old and 3g has gotten alot more popular so your not exactly outa the loop anymore either.

So, anybody know how to prevent this or reverse it?

Can't help you there. One of my cell phones is a government phone anyway. They already see where all my calls go. And just because its theoretically possible doesn't mean its happening.

Wow.. Not nearly as big of a deal as people like to think. Yes the FBI can easily trace you across the internet also, but you arent getting off the internet are you? The possibilities of being tracked are endless.. and yet the likelyhood is very slim.

Eh im not so worried about internet cause i "know" my own things as well.

Now, if me and my family are sitting here having a private discussion about w/e and my phone is sitting on the table and somebody has bugged it and are listening in. I wouldnt like that.

If im having sex with my gf and my phone is on the desk or in the room and somebody puts the recording all over the internet i wouldnt like that either.

Still think its not a big deal?

Ya i still think its not a big deal.. There isnt going to be somebody sitting there listening to you ALL the time.. EVER. If they make a constant recording it would A) Takes lots of space and B) Take lots of time to actually listen to your stuff

They can pop in at random times. And with the way cell phoens work it would just transmit to whereever you want it and not worry about memory. Thats why the battery drain, and getting hot like if you where on the phone. I know somebody in my area knows how to do it becasue like i said its been done before to a friend of mine. I wont reveal what they got, but they put it all over the internet. It was quite embarrassing for him.

Nobody is arguing that it can happen.. so we get that point.

And yes.. they can pop in at random times, but so what. The UPS guy can pop in at random times.. people can break into your house at random times and catch you doing whatever..

Moreover.. you are worrying about a miniscule problem which you have no way to protect yourself from. What makes you believe that blog that all those signs are actually present?? Perhaps they found a low power way to spy on you and it removes the heat and battery factor?? Is that true? You dont know, nor do i.. What can we do about it?? Get rid of cell phones.. and home phones for that matter b/c its not hard to get into the central phone system to bug a phone either. Maybe we should just get rid of all powered items b/c if it uses electricity it can spy on you.

Watch out, your microwave and toaster are next to spy on you!!!

Just becasue you dont see the seriousness of the situation dosent mean you should mock me for it. And no, there is no low power way of doing it. You have to use a certain amount of power to transmit a signal from your cell phone. Its the same amount of power used to burst a text, or transmit during phone conversations. If they are transmitting thats why your phone will get hot like it would during a normal conversation and waste battery.

I would just laugh if it happend to you, and something about you that you talked abotu while your phone was around got spread all over the internet that youdont want people knowing. Wouldnt be so miniscule then.

Guess what... i do entirely understand the seriousness of the situation, its horrible if it happens to you. But the likelyhood is almost ZERO. Who says there isnt a low power way of transmitting?? Look at this analogy.. A CPU runs cooler if you run it slower.. Why wouldnt a phone run cooler if you transfered the signial at a slower speed.. lower frequency?? That would **Theoretically** lower the temps.

I would just laugh if it happend to you, and something about you that you talked abotu while your phone was around got spread all over the internet that youdont want people knowing. Wouldnt be so miniscule then.

I will just laugh at you knowing that you seem so worried. If that does happen to me (after i win the lottery) i will definately let you know so you can enjoy your well deserved laughter. Until that time, i will live confident in my knowing that i have no control over the situation so i wont let it ruin my life.

Actually all they'd have to do is store it on the external memory that most of us have and then transmit it at 0345 or so. You'd never notice if it got hot then, and it'd be plugged in. But like he said, why worry about the things you can't change?

PP Mguire

It still has to transmit at a certain power which will heat up the phone. And if anybody was to do this they would turn the mic on and transmit without storing so they could hear a convo in real time.

I find it funny that people like you guys use your virus scanners and your spyware protectors and your firewalls over something so stupid as the things those programs block. But something serious like this that can entirely screw you over if the right thing is heard you guys mock and play fun at me over. I didnt say i was paranoid over it, i didnt say i was going to let it ruin my life, or get my boxer shorts in a wad over it. Just a matter of security like identity theft that i thought i would enlighten you people over and i get this in return. Yea, ok.

Just want to point out.. I have no running AV program, no Spyware programs installed, and no firewall

I know your intentions were good PP, but I just don't think this is as big a problem as you think it is. First of all, if it is happening, it's highly unlikely that any of us would be a target. Second of all, my conversations are all quite boring. If somebody wants to listen in, go right ahead. It's not really worth the effort that it takes or the risk of being caught. Don't think that I don't appreciate hearing about new security risks, because I do, I just think this is one of those that got a little blown out of proportion.

You said it better than i could srpeters.. As long as this isnt reported on 60 Minutes or 20/20 it wont ever be a huge public scare. If they do cover it, it wont be pretty

Ha i just realized something i dont have a cell phone. :dielaffin: So its impossible for it to happen to me, though they can get me other ways.

Ah where to begin on this one. With the right know how you can listen in on anyone, anywhere. Ever hear of a laser mic? Look it up and see what it does. To tell you the absolute truth everything you say on a cell is recorded. In fact every transmission, email, radio signal, tv station etc is recorded day and day out. Almost every developed nation has a signals intelligence department that does this and stores the information. In the US you have NSA, in Canada it is the CSE etc. This has been going on since the late sixties early seventies. Sometimes you get some guys who have gotten hold of some information on how to do things from either parents or relatives in these institutions such as cloning a cell phone, free long distance calls, listening on a neighbor using bugs or laser mics from daddies closet.

The fact is it can happen to anyone at any time and to tell you the truth it does not matter nor should anyone get paranoid over it unless they are into some heavy ****. I remember a NSA demonstration in which an operative flipped a switch and we were all listening in on a cell conversation with Osama Bin Laden talking to his mother (yes way before 9/11). Funny stuff!

The signals intelligence agencies (US, Canada)have a super computer (always the newest and best and they both buy the exact same kind) that they call 'The Funnel'. What they do is flag suspicious things mostly checking for encryptions, electronic encryptions, cyphers etc. Now depending on what and who they are looking for they would then be transfered to an analyst or a team of analysts. That's when things get looked at, listened to and possibly investigated.

Im not talking GOV here. Im talking personal close people living around you. Idk bout you guys, but i do have a few friends who are capable of this.

Nope. Most of my friends aren't really that good with computers. With the exception of friends on bjorn3D of course, but none of you guys live close enough to me that I have to worry. Except Shannon, he's a little closer. Hmmmm.

My uncle can do this. One day i was talking to him and he was tuning the phone and we could hear other people talking.
