I have a 30gb 5gen iPod. It won't charge in my computer, or be recognized. Some time ago, I bought a wall charger for it and it would charge through that. However, the charge would not last long and upon connecting it to a computer it would die almost instantly no matter how long its been charged for. I plugged it into the wall outlet now, and I can hear the little hard drive whizzing and whirring around, and the Apple logo appear. But after that, when the screen lights up like its about to charge, the little motor stops. Then, it goes black, and repeats the process. Is the battery dead all the way? I know Apple loves to screw you in terms of customer service... so I am assuming a new battery from them isn't the best idea. Its never been dropped or anything. Does anybody have any additional suggestions to just make it charge? its almost there and keeps turning off. Its a frustrating thing to watch. Thanks everybody.

How old is it? New batteries are usually $70ish with install from Apple. As with all Apple products it is best to go to the Mac Store.

The first contribution of Steve Jobs that made him sucess to today's portable music device market. I personally don't think ipods are not improving in software but in size and design. I don't like ipods but i have to say it helped Steve Jobs shout out "Apple".

if it's not being recognized when you plug it in your system, hten it's not the battery problem. It's most likely the HD or the PCB board problem.

Take it to the Mac store and see what they say. Only thing you can really do.
