Hi all,

I'm interested if any of you support asking XFX to improve Quad core overclocking on the 680 boards. I know there are several people who claim it's only possible by implementing a hardware mod but they're wrong.

A bios mod should do fine. The one thing that's missing and should improve Quad Core overclocking substantially on 680 boards is GTL Vref adjustment.

The functionality for GTL Vref adjustment is available in the 780 board bios and it uses the same base reference design as the 680 boards. The 780 bios is twice the size of the 680 bios but the GTL Vref code might just fit into the 680 bios.

I think, even more so because the new Q9xxx series Quads don't work on the XFX 680 boards, that XFX should release a bios which enables 680 board owners to overclock Quads easier(So we, Q6600, Q6700 etc owners can squeeze a bit more juice out of our cpu's and XFX can set a better reputation for building overclocker aka performance boards).

So, XFX, what will it be? Can and will you release a bios with GTL Vref functionality indeed? And fellow Quad owners, do you want such a bios?

Grtz,

Patrick
BTW. if you don't own a 680 board, your vote is not really relevant;)

680i is a old board, it is like asking for them to release a new BIOS for a 7950GT to make it OC better.

I agree it's not a very fresh board but I disagree with your statement.

Its more like asking them to fix a bug! Which is not that weird at all:)
Selling an overclockers board which overclocks poorly with Quads is not very nice is it?:)
