GT 9600 black screen sound loop

Latelty my games are crashing. It happens randomly. Sometimes i can play for an hour. Sometimes i can play for 5 minutes. When it crashes my screen goes black and the sound starts to loop. After this there is nothing i can do. So i have to reset my pc. I did a clean install of windows and installed the latest drivers. I still have the problem. I ran a Nvidia test program to see if there was something wrong with my pc. But it passed all tests.

I have 2 stock xfx 9600GT. After some web research and from my own troubleshooting, I can tell you the problem is not with : PSU, memory, drivers, motherboard, etc. It is with the reference design video card.

I moved the video card to a completely different computer system and the black screen followed it. That tells me it is with the video card and not with any hardware. I've done complete XP rebuild, twice and the problem comes back.

The only thing I tell you that helped, is downclock the card. It seems to happen less when core, memory, shaders are at stock, but they still happen.

I'm testing out a new fix to see if it will completely resolve the problem, but it will take time to get any definitive answer.
