Alright, system is and was as follows:
REVISION 1 Stable since February
Pentium 4 D 925 @ 3.0 (not OC'ed)
2GB Corsair XMS2 DDR2 800 (stock, no OC, 5-5-5-18 2T)
xfx 680i LT (no BIOS updates)
2x inno3D 8600 GT 1GB (not using bridge due to flickering issues with Hellgate: London in fullscreen)
Maxtor somethingsomething standard runofthemill IDE HD
Xfinity 600w PSU
REVISION 2 As of 7 hours ago, dead
Pentium C2D E7200 Wolfdale @ 2.53
4GB of OCZ Platinum Revision 2 DDR2 800 (stock timings are 5-5-5-18 until set otherwise)
xfx 680i LT (still no BIOS updates, I've had alot of bad experiences in this matter and I make it a point not to fix what isn't broken)
2x inno3D 8600 GT 1GB
Maxtor somethingsomething standard runofthemill SATA-I HD (been using for a month now, actually) along with the old one
Xfinity 600w PSU
I popped in the new CPU, and a single stick of the OCZ because I've done my homework, and now no video signal just like the majority of threads. Mobo allegedly POSTs as all three LEDS come on, fans spin, HDs rumble, DVD drive spins my shiny new Vista Ultimate x64 DVD, etc.
Now, I restored it back to its former (lack of) glory, and I still get no video signal. Everything else seems to come to life, though.
Save, oddly, for the CPU cooling fan doesn't spin until I shut the thing off, and then it only spins for a fraction of a second and then goes quiet with the rest of the components. I note this because it's the first I've heard of it. It's just a generic Coolermaster heatsink and fan, nothing special. Swapped for the stock CPU fan and it spins, but still nothing on the video signal.
Now I thought my problem was that I was no longer had a video signal from my machine, but after a review of all the threads here, it seems my problem was that it ran so damn well for almost five months. :-D Never would have guessed it was such a problematic board, as I've been loving it.
Now onto the comprehensive list of things I have attempted:
Reseated new and old CPU
Checked for bent pins
Tried to boot with just 1 stick of RAM in different slots (OCZ and Corsair)
Tried to boot with all matching pairs of RAM in different slots
Removed 8600 GTs and instead used an old (but working) Radeon PCI video card
Cursed a whole bunch
Different PSU
Different monitor
Used a USB instead of a PS/2 keyboard (a posted fix I found online somewhere)
Unplugged then reconnected 8pin and 24pin power connectors
Unplugged then reconnected every connector
Attempted to boot with just one HD, no DVD drive, etc.
Unplugged, removed battery, and set the jumper to reset the CMOS for around an hour (currently trying a longer run of that, as I only gave up initially due to impatience)
Chicken voodoo
Attempted to FIND the Live Support the xfx Support Site alludes to ("Alternatively please use our LIVE HELP system, this is available from the drop down box next to your registered product."), however this mythical beast does not exist anywhere on the site.
Tried every other component besides CPU and RAM in other machines (I only have one socket 775 board in the house, and only one board that supports PC2-6400 RAM.... the 680i LT)
Installed Stock CPU fan instead of Coolermaster
Removed mounting bracket for Coolermaster heat sink
Removed motherboard from case entirely, attempted to boot sitting on an antistatic bag (the one it arrived in, actually)
Sacrificed a virgin
I'm sure I forgot many of the things I tried but this is a pretty good list
I know the answer at this stage is "RMA the board," but one of my roommates is enterprise-level IT, and I have a few enthusiast friends outside of the house as well, so I was hoping MAYBE there was some possibility from my end before I go months (from one user's first-hand account) without a gaming rig. I myself am admittedly not much more experienced then "build 'em and use 'em."
So here it goes, input on anything I may have missed or may want to try would be appreciated.
Would also like to avoid RMA due to strict return policy with Newegg on CPUs and Rebate time limit on OCZ RAM. I have no way of actually testing either of these things to see if they work at the moment :frown:
Opened a ticket on xfx's site but between the message about delayed response on the site and the Sticky here about a tech being off (which then went on to describe an alarmingly low number of replacement techs), I have a feeling the planets have aligned against me here.
