Right click My Computer and select Manage. Check the device manager to see if you have any devices with question marks, exclamation points, or red Xes. If it has an exclamation point double click it and see what the message is under the device status. Are you in XP or Vista? What components are installed in the system?

i am running xp 32bit. i have xfx 780I SLI. Intel E8500. Geforce 8600 GTS 256 MB. 500 GB SATA hard drive. dvd burner. 700w psu. and there isn't any question marks, exclemation points, or red exes next to anything.

Did you use the drivers on the disc? Are you running SP2 or SP3? Try uninstalling the drivers you have installed and downloading the newest ones from Realtek from ftp://66.104.77.130/pc/audio/WDM_R196.exe I have seen Realteks older drivers not get a long well with SP3 before. If need be you may want to uninstall the current drivers and run Driver Cleaner Pro on the Realtek drivers in safe mode to make sure they are cleaned out.

i dunno if its just me or not, but it isn't showing any files for download there. i've already gotten rid of the old drivers, just need the new one to download, and i can't download it if i can't see it. grrrrrrrr, frustration to the max.
edit: oh, and if anybody has this file for download not on realtek site, that would be amazing if i could get it that way.

Click software and then download the drivers from the next page. I was able to click the link I posted and download the drivers. I couldn't find 1.96 from any sites that I trust enough to link to them here but when I did a quick google search for realtek 1.96 they were around.

Can you try to get them on another machine and move them over on a flash drive or cd?
