was playing some STALKER yesterday when the game froze and i had to restart my pc. Upon booting up i went to check out ntune just to see what was happening with my system cause i started smelling heat. when i checked my gpu temp it was 160 C :jawdrop:. I almost leaped outa my skin, shut down the pc, pulled out the wires and removed my card (when it was cool enough to touch again) nothing physically wrong with the card although i dont know whats going on under the fan housing. You guys think the card is still okay - 7900GS 512 mb AGP . i just got this card and was loving it, hope it isnt ruined, was a gift from my wife, i will be most sad.
I have placed a ticket with support and they gave me some options to run with, will test it out later tonight.

Check to make sure the fan is spinning. It could of locked up or the motor could of went out on it.

It might be for a short period but at that temperature running it is asking for complete failure of the card.
I'd use RivaTuner for temps or ATITool Ntune is notoriously buggy. I believe you that the card is over heating but Ntune just isn't good software.
I'd do an RMA on the card because like Scott said it's probably a fan failure.

Did XFX make the card? If so go to www.xfxforce.com (http://www.xfxforce.com) and regisiter the card and describe the problem in support to get an RMA# They will then issue you # and give you the shipping address where to send it for repair.

it is indeed an xfx card but i'll send it to the store that i bought it from and they will oversee the exchange for me, i've already contacted them. Thanks for the assist guys, i learned something new today.
Ticket has already been placed with XFX and they recommended a few tests to conduct, but i think i'll send the card back just to be safe ... :-D

DANG! 160C! If you can still exchange it at a store, it would be much faster than RMA'ing it to XFX and waiting 2 weeks.
