I have recently purchased an 8800GT to go in my brothers rig.
Card plays COD4 (his only game) cranked so he loves it.
Only problem is that the fan seems like it is stuck at 100%. i remember reading something about this before but never really payed attention to it until now.
i have tried in rivatuner to set the fan speed fixed to 40% etc. but it does not affect the speed. Do i need to flash the bios..?

Some of the cards come with fans that arent adjustable.. Check the fan connector to see how many pins it has

Yup, some non-reference cards aren't adjustable. What model do you have?

my 8600 is indeed more "whispery" somewhat quieter than what my 7900 was, but no matter my efforts of changing the fan speed, it will not change for my 8600 (7900 had NO options for this) Flashing the BIOS wouldn't be a big deal, since if i screw up, i do have a PCI card available. I've got the HP tool to format a flash drive for bootable use, i have Nbitor and NVFlash. Will flashing the BIOS void my warranty? (I know there's a modder friendly warranty, but BIOS flashing friendly??) :ahhhhh:

For a time they were sending out replacement fans that were adjustable. Seems like your model was one of those that didn't come with an adjustable one. Like somebody else was saying, look and see how many pins your fan is using.

All YD models were always adjustable. Make a ticket at http://www.xfxforce.com/en-us/Help/Support.aspx and PM me the ticket number. We can send you a new cooler for that card which will make it adjustable for you.

Is it possible that I (UK resident) can receive a replacement fan also.
I have raised a support ticket: 166120

UK is handled by a different team. The European team is already off. They should be able to answer your ticket at the beginning of the week.
