where is the 9800GTX stomping the 4870? From what ive seen the 4850 is going to be competing with the 9800GTX and is priced to do so.
The 4870 seems to fall in just a few FPS behind the GTX280 even in Nvidia optimised games. and at half the price as the 280 i can see them going like hot cakes!

What are you talking about? :???:

Trust me, if Nvidia weren't so worried about the 4850, the 9800GTX wouldn't have dropped nearly $100 in price instantly.

4850 - 9800GTX
4870 - GTX 2xx

Nvidia is in some deep trouble my friend.

Nvidia doesnt have to worry about the performance crown. Theyll make a GTX 290 or GTX 280 GX2, if ATI makes a 4870 X2. The 4870 doesnt match up to the GTX 280. They do need to price the GTX 260, 9800 GX2, and GTX 280 lower. There high for what the 4870 is priced at.

it doesnt but where the battle is how many of us can afford a 600$ video card ? especially when a 300 dollar one is out and does fairly well against it ... say roughly 3/4 of the power of the 280gtx for half the cost ( which is actually showing to be a much smaller gap between the 280 and the 4870 )

Actually I think your right. Look at the drivers and it has another card in there over the GTX280 but it may not get called the GTX290. But from the driver standpoint they are definitely bringing out a surprise card.

Gtx 290?

177.40 drivers

nvidia_gt200.dev_05e0.1 = "nvidia Gt200-400"

Gtx 280: Gt200-300
Gtx 260: Gt200-100

r700 is a x2 version of the 4800 series. If that happens Im sure we will see a 260/280 x2 much like the 9800x2. basically two cores on one graphic board. However, games might not work well with these dual GPU setups just yet (I think GRID can only utilize one GPU core for the 9800x2 and the x2 series of the 3870s were notorious for their microstuttering). It is newer technology of having multi-core GPU and I think pound for pound the GTX280 is a beast considering it is a single core with yet to be refined drivers. The graphics world is looking good and its all due to some nice "friendly" competition!
My biggest surprise is the ability for these newer cards to transcode video. It is going to make video editing/conversion so much faster....so much more to a videocard than just gaming these days. Finally I can convert some of these DVD rips of seasons of Lost, scrubs, 24, etc. onto my ipod without waiting 10 decades.

Yep I like the prices of the newer 4800 series cards, the gtx280 may be a beast but price wise its just way to much for a card.

The 7950 GX2 and 9800 GX2 have both been $600, its not a new thing.
