I bought this a little while ago as it seemed to be a good card.
Installed it etc, games look slightly better but i seem to be getting choppy frame rates sometimes.. as low as 8fps. This is on wow and my old graphics card handled it better than this evan tho it was a pathetic excuse of a card. Lots of my friends have this card and tell me they don't get their frames as low as that. The fps seems to be all over the place, it dosn't sit still and i don't seem to get anywhere near as high as my friends.
I'm not sure if it's a dodgy card, installed incorrectly or something with my pc, maybe it can't handle it.

The card is : http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/specpage.html?XFX-88GTS5#

^^ That's my PC specs. The only things i have updated are it now has 2GB RAM and i now have a much higher power unit.

I did have a problem installing it before-hand with the following errors:

I only got it installed by setting the computer in VGA mode which then installed it fine. Well i thought it was fine but the performance dosn't seem too good and i've been gettign random crashes on WOW and the blue screen of death with "NVA.DISP error.
Since I bought th card i have

If you need anymore pc details or what not, let me know and maybe how if it's not something so simple to find out. :)

Try downloading driver cleaner(http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=745) and then uninstall your drivers, restart in safe mode, run the driver cleaner on the NVIDIA setting and ATI if you ever had an ATI card on your system, and then reinstall your drivers while in safe mode. If you still get choppy play than can you try the card in another system to see if you get the same results? Are you still running on a 350W power supply? That is incredibly light for an 8800GTS.

I have tried all that uninstalling, drive cleaning and then reinstalling but it dosn't evan install when i do that, i can't evan get it to install in VGA mode again so i have to system restore to be able to play anything while i wait for answers.

The power supply that is now fitted is 570W so it's more than enough.

Are you able to try the card in another system? The fact that rolling back the OS lets you play games would lead me to suspect faulty OS software and not the card.

I will try it out tomorrow.

You might want to try getting a new processor. A P4 is a extreme bottleneck on that card, a 7950 GT already sends a P4 EE screaming, I cant imagine what a 8800 GTS would do to a normal P4.

My P4 extreme crazy bottlenecks my 7950gt even at 3.7ghz. And on my old 2.8ghz hyper p4 I got half the fps of the EE.

But would that stop it from installing properly? I'm still not evan convinced it's evan installed properly. I have tried it on another PC and it performed better than his card evan tho it's one of the best around.

Any suggestions/links to processors which could be a good buy?

I have never seen anyone install a 8800 GTS 512 in that old of a computer so I dont know if that caused a bad install but you should take off your drivers then restart, then install the new drivers or it wont install right. That card is performing bad because its in a old pc that cant keep up with it.

This says the board is a Socket 478. You cant upgrade to any CPU that would be worth while. I would recommend getting a whole new motherboard and processor.

Heres a cheap one:

Heres one that is better but costs more:

You will also need DDR 2 RAM to use these but thats pretty cheap.
Here is 2 GB of really good quality RAM:
