I saw similar threads explaining that they wanted the fan speed always to be 100%. I want my fan speed to turn down a little lower when im not using 3d intensive softawre and doing basic computing. I know I cannot manually control the fan speed because its a 2 pin connector. Do i just have a bad fan or what? I used to own a 7600GT XXX that also was a 2 pin connector and the fan always turned down during idle. I can't stand this jet engine sounding fan! Please help :help:
regards,

8600GTs have two wire fans so they can't be adjusted. You could change to a different cooler though, just make sure you keep that one in case something goes wrong later.

Yes, I am currently talking to Mark from XFX's support page and he picked up my ticket. He said I could get something along the lines of a Zalman VF700... One question, why does my 7600GT XXX change speeds automatically and it has a 2 wire fan as well? I wouldn't mind if my 8600 GT XXX changed speeds automatically, lol.

It isn't a feature that was put in to the 8600GT. The VF700 is a good quiet cooler that can be picked up for about $25 though. We have used that cooler on our cards before.

The support tech (Mark) said the cooler (Zalman VF700) was covered in XFX's warranty. Im awaiting his reply on how to obtain one through XFX. Are you Mark? lol.

I think he meant that it wouldn't void your warranty if you live in North America.

Oh, well I read on a couple forums about card owners requesting fans and XFX sent the fans in the mail...

Fans that are stock on other versions of the 8800, the fan in question here you will need to buy yourself. (Most likely)

Yeah for a VF700 you would have to buy it from Newegg or something. We have another fan I could send you which is a little quieter than the 8600GT fan and it fits on the 8600GT but we don't have them in right now. It still won't be variable though. I can set myself a reminder to send one to you when we get them if you want.
Did someone tell my alter ego? :ahhhhh: Yes, I am Mark.

Yes that would be great. I wouldn't mind the fan spinning at 100% all time, as long as the nosie is reduced. Mark, I think you are assigned to my ticket right now.

How long do you think it would take for the fan to arrive? Also, is it just another stock fan?
Thanks.

I know we have more ordered. I don't have an ETA though. I set a reminder and they will let me know when the come in so I can get one out right away. It is actually the same cooler as the 7600GT so you already know how quiet it is. :icon_tiphat:

Haha nice, okay thanks a lot for your help! I really do appreciate it. I'm assuming you are going to get my information from my ticket then and update it I guess. I'll be watching from there then. Again, thanks a lot for your help.

just to clairfy, XFX does not send adjustable replacement fans? Just the 7600GT fan you stated before...

The 7600GT had voltage regulation on the fan port or something like that so it used kind of a resistor to change the power going to the fan. I am not an engineer so that is just an educated guess. The fan wasn't adjustable on those the card's power was adjustable.
