Hi all I'm knew to this forum.
I'm looking to go SLI 2X-XFX 8800GT Alpha Dog Edtion.
Ok here is my question i got me a XFX 8800GT Alpha Dog Edtion PVT88PYDQ and the store i got it from don't have any more of these card
and are planning not to get anymore cause of the new models have the fan always on 100% i live in belgium so no i can't just say go to another store cause the choise here are the ASUS Cards.
But they do have the XXX Edtion PVT88PYDD so what i want to know is if I buy this card it only costs 10 euros more i don't care about that. and flash it with the other cards bios will that work i see it's the same hardware only the fan is different do you guys think it's possible cause I don't want to get two 9600GT I love my 8800GT and these two models the fans are adjustable.
Thanks.

DO NOT FLASH THE YDQ BIOS ON THE YDD.:ahhhhh: They are very likely different revision cards. They will work fine with each other without any flashing. They will sync up at the slow speed of the YDQ. Welcome to SLIdome though. :icon_tiphat:

So you can run different manufacture's cards like a gigabyte 8800 gtx and a xfx 8800 gtx with no bios flash? In SLI?

Yes you can run different manufacturer's cards together. It is recommended to stay with one though because if something goes wrong down the line we can swap out both cards if we had to change one with a different model where as if you had say an XFX and a Gigabyte card we are not responsible for their card.

It is probably best to just use Rivatuner to change the frequencies of the cards because it is easily reversible. If you flash the wrong revision BIOS on one of the cards you could end up with a lot of problems. It could range from artifacts due to memory timings being different or even the card not working at all anymore.

Oh thanks for the heads up but if i use the Rivatuner i know i can change the frequencies but still it won't be the same as the other card what i was hopping for was a 1:1 SLI just in case if anythings go's wrong so you know like a kid when you say don't they always do!
Well let me share with you what i did well i got the YDD card and made a backup of the BIOS and then i made a backup of the YDQ card then i flashed the YDQ card with the YDD BIOS and i must say nothing wrong everything works perfect. then i flashed it with the old BIOS back but what i didn't try was the YDD to the YDQ BIOS so i think i will stay with both running at the higher speed. oh i tried one card still have to see what SLI will give still need to install my new PC.
OH almost fergot the tempature are
CPU=47C
CPU memory=39C
CPU ambient=37C
on both of the bios the run at the same tempatures. So i think it's OK.
