As usually EVGA is first, they always have their BIOS updates ready several days before XFX and this time is no different.

im new to building my own systems and im trying to learn all i can. is there any real point to updating from a working bios to one that might possibly screw your system over?

I guess the answer you get would largely depend on who you ask. I've "always" built my own systems and I've always updated to the "latest and greatest" of BIOS and drivers for my systems. My rule of thumb is that even if my system is working at the moment the new BIOS/driver will add something or fix something that I just haven't discovered yet. However I am confident that I'll be able to fix any problem that might arise and/or revert back to a previous driver/firmware if needed. I usually wait a couple of days before installing so I can read up a bit on other peoples experiences first.

The opposite would be to follow the rule of thumb "if it ain't broke then don't fix it". A lot of people will follow this and they usually won't update anything unless they know it's supposed to fix a specific problem they have and/or add a specific functionality they need.

For me it's simple, I feel a "need" for the "latest and greatest" and it somehow gives me a satisfaction just knowing that my system is up-to-date. This goes for all my electronic devices (and I have accumulated a lot of them), I guess I'm just tech-no-crazy :)

P06 is up @ xfxforce.com. As a side note, my PCI-E eSata card is now working with a bios newer than P04!! Thanks XFX!!! :-) :icon_tiphat:

Hello,

I cannot seem to install the latest P06 bios from ISO file, however I was able to install the P06 BIN files for use with Nforce System Tools update utility.

Do I still have to install the ISO file?!

Ok, Guess I'm set with the update. Even though the BIN files should be larger in size than the ISO, there are apparently boot info in the ISO file that increases the size.

The ISO failed to work, maybe because my disc drive is SATA.

You don't have to flash with the ISO after the BIN. The way I make my ISOs it shoudl work with SATA drives but I haven't tried the ISO from the site so I don't know how they made it.

I have a new XFX 780 board and am trying to install the new P06 Bios. First, I downloaded the ISO and burned it to a CD on my laptop. I put the CD in the computer and boot up but nothing happens. I only get a blank screen. Any ideas? This is a brand new build.

Thanks

Have you tried the BIN file in Windows? Download the latest version of nForce System Tools from http://www.nvidia.com/object/nvidia_system_tools_6.02.html (http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce_system_tools_6.01.html) to update the BIOS through Windows. Uninstall your old version of System Tools, if you have it installed, and install this version. When using Windows to flash your BIOS always be sure to check for the latest System Tools for the best compatibility. Not using the latest update utility could result in a failed flash which would require the board to be serviced.

Are you sure you burned the ISO as an image? You can't burn it as data. If you need a utility to burn with I like MagicISO from magiciso.com
