lets start with specs:
XFX MBN790IUL9 LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 790i Ultra SLI motherboard
Patriot 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory x2 for 8 gigs
Thermaltake Toughpower W0133RU ATX12V / EPS12V 1200W Power Supply
Intel® Core™ 2 Extreme Quad Processor QX9650
XFX PVT98FYDDU GeForce 9800 GTX(G92) XXX 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 x2 for sli
Seagate Barracuda ES.2 ST31000340NS 1TB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148278) x2 runing in raid0 stripe

at first before upgrading to the newest bios i was having stibility issues, so i updated and then changed the memory voltage to 1.7 and the mgz from 1066 to 1333 and still had issues so i tried just using 2 or one memory module and had the same issues, then i read about changing the 1t to 2t and gave that a go. Win vista 64 still bsod'd and said to check memory or video card. And here is where it gets interesting, i then go and try to put all 4 modules back in thinking maybe its because i dint have a pair in seeing ans the memory is duel channel and with all 4 in it give a C1 error code even after resetting the bios. I can put 2 modules in but they have to be next to each other (like slot 0 and 2 not 0 and 1)or i get the same error

Up the Voltage on the memory. 1.7 Volts is to little on this board, try 1.9 Also what MCP and SPP Volts are you using.

With one stick of memory test all four slots. If the system boots all four times than give us a run down on what your memory timings and voltages are and what the exact kit of memory you have is.

the system wont boot with one memory module in dimm slot 1 or dimm slot 3 but will boot and load vista 64 with mem in dimm slot 0 and dimm slot 2
voltages are as follows
mem 1.7
timing is 7 7 7 20 with 2t
fsb is 1333 and is linked to memory bus of 1333
spp auto 1.3
mcp auto 1.5
the memory is: Patriot Memory ddr3
model number:PDC34G1333LLK

Create a ticket at http://www.xfxforce.com/en-us/Help/Support.aspx and PM me the ticket number. I can get an RMA issued for that board. Unfortunate but that probably means that controller is dead. You are using this format, 02 13, right? In that format 0 and 2 are under the same controller. If you are using a 01 23 format than it doesn't make sense that it wouldn't boot in those two slots unless something external happened to the board. Slots usually don't go bad. It would normally be the controllers.

yeah when i use 1 memory module in 0 it boots, when i put a module in 0 and 1 it wont boot and gives a C1 error. But i can put one in 0 and one in 2 and it boots but if i put anything in 1 and 3 it refuses to boot and i get the C1. i pm'd you with my ticket number

Are you numbering your memory slots as 01 23 or 02 13?

i am following the diagram in the manual that has them numbered as 0 2 1 3 from left to right and has them paired as 0 and 1 2 and 3

Okay that is a faulty memory controller than. We should RMA that board.
