Anyone know where the bin file is? All I can locate is the iso.

I honestly don't know whats in this ISO file since its empty except for a boot partition. There is no BIN file...

I just tried using the eVGA ISO image but it errors out with "The program file's part number does not match with your system!" :frown:
I got the same problem with the new P06 .ISO file. It seems completely empty, besides the bootable sectors.
Opened it up with ISOBUSTER, there is no .BIN file at all!
Burned it on CD, it boots into the AWDFLASH, but just sits there saying PLEASE WAIT for all eternity.
I made a support ticket on XFXforce.com, someone named Shaun helped me, and told me they are looking into this at the moment.
it surprises me that there are not more topics about this, isn't anyone updating their bios or something?
Regards,
Tim.
You're right, the .ISO file does not work, there is no .BIN file inside ( opened it with ISOBUSTER ). There is only the bootfiles, that make the CD bootable.
Started a supportticket with XFX, they are looking into it.

We're the only nerds updating our 790i BIOS the week of the 4th. Naw, just kidding. It is a little strange that other people aren't posting about this either. At least I know I'm not the only one. I was getting real frustrated...

same problem here.....
no bin in any file!
why evga has bin file and xfx no?
Does anyone know if we can use the EVGA bios since there is no difference between the two boards????
Yes it does use the bin file and F2 option at post screen.
Do this at your own risk...

Thing is I can not do this on my system. I've been having nothing but problems with this board since day one.
1.) Hard lock, no error message, no error in event viewer, nothing. It will just hard lock and force a reset. It could last a week or it could last all of 10 seconds.
2.) SPDIF out does not work on the board.
3.) My Auzentech X-FI slowly became un-useable. When I first got the board my soundcard worked fine. Now it crackles and pops and the system slowly becomes laggy. Works just fine on my Asus Striker II Formula though and now my USB2 headset is doing the same thing.
4.) ALT+F2 on boot no longer works. Freezes at entering flash utility screen. This has been happening since I flashed to P05V2.
The board is getting worse and worse and I was hoping the P06 would fix alot of the issues. It has been recommended too me that I replace the motherboard by XFX aswell as some coleagues of mine. I'll wait for the P06 biose to become available. If it does not fix the issues, I'm dropping this board and going back to Asus with either a Maximus Extreme or a Striker II Extreme.
The 790 experience has been a pain from day one for many and I do think it will cost NVIDIA as far as their motherboards go.
It still crashes and locks up at random just this week I have to reset the bios setting x2.
For some odd reason when it locks up and you press reset it reboots at 3.8GHz fsb 1700 ram1.9 from 3.6 fsb 1600 ram 1.8v I have no idea why?
Will try the P06 bios and see if its any better will have my replacement QX9650 next week see if I can use 9 multiplier on this mobo

Well I flashed using the awdflash /f command and now have the bios installed.
1.) Popping and crackling with the USB2 Headset, XFI and onboard audio still present. Durring audio playback the system becomes sluggish, more so when the audio crackles and pops.
2.) SPDIF out still does not wrok.
3.) Lockups still present.
4.) Still can not access the ALT+F2 at post. System hangs when trying to enter the flash utility.
5.) This issue I have not posted before but I have had this problem from day one aswell. Plugging he power into the PC causes it to automatically turn on without the use of a power switch, showing there is a short on the board.
This bios patch adds better OCing options to the motherboard and other options to the bios. According to the EVGA forums there is nothing along the lines of fixing issues. Another useless Bios for an unstable motherboard IMO. Very upset with the boards from EVGA and XFX...

I think we have a consensus of opinion here.
Flashing the 790i BIOS is, at best,"risky"...at worst, will kill / mess up your BIOS.
It's "finniky",... and,
you now have a "Brick":help:
@Hapatingjaky,
Have you tried using JUST onboard sound?
Disable the others and see.
I think XFX Tech will be along soon.
Hapatingjaky
07-05-2008, 08:03 PM
Yes I've tried it with analog sound using onboard, removing both the Logitech ClearChat Pro USB2 and the XFI from the system. When I can make the sound distort very easily by scrolling up and down a website. The system will actually do a mini lock and then come back.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1zTGOwr9jgY
This is the lockup issue I am talking about aswell.
It seems the longer I use the board the worse things get.

I got a checksum error when trying to use P06 as provided. It wouldn't flash it.
I've been fine on P05v2 though. All stability issues vanished when I made sure my Q6600 G-0 @ 3.61GHz was getting 1.46v real. Running DDR3 1600 9-9-9-24 2T 1.9v in the black slots.
I do use on board sound with Vista HP x64 SP1 without issues.
I like the board quite a bit now.
I think its quite strange that you say you flashed it to P06, since the original XFX P06 .ISO is empty, besides the boot sector. There is no bios file inside the .ISO, no .BIN whatsoever.
Did you use the EVGA bios or something?

Yeah, using the EVGA ISO I booted up, when it failed it kicks back to DOS where I just typed awdflas /f NF79_06.BIN and it forces the bios. Works just fine but my issues are still here. I will probably move to an Asus Stirker II Extreme since its a better desinged board and with the new 0901 bios alot of issues are taken care of, people can actually use their XFI soundcards.
Ah, ok i will try that. Did you use the same .ISO that can be found on the XFX support page? I assume you just made a bootable cd-rom with awdflash and the .ISO on it or something ?
P.S.
I dont have any of the problems that you've mentioned above, very strange. Works like a charm over here. Couldn't you just RMA the board, and get a new one ? Don't know if the support of XFX is just as good as that from EVGa ?

No. I just downloaded the EVGA ISO and used that.
I am gonna reload my PC. I've been using the 15.17 Nforce drivers with this and that might be what is causing my XFI issues. Nvidia has pulled the 15.17 driver from its site now. I've been reading alot of issues with this driver so I'm just gonna reload.
I don't need to RMA as the company I purchase all my parts at has an IPR where they will replace any product within the IPR timeframe with a brand new product.
I'd prefer Asus anyways as I find it to be better quality, 8 phase power design instead of 6, fill copper cooling, better memory throughput, better bios.
Too bad.. expected more from XFX, they should open their own forum or something, the feedback here from the tech people is horrible to be hounest.
Anyways, still cant load the new p06 bios, just hangs there in awdflash.

what i dont understand is the QA is horrable. How could you miss that the iso doesnt contain the bios. Also why dont they post the .bin like EVGA. How i updated to p05 was just put the .bin file on a cd and then hit alt-f2. didnt need the iso. And im sure they got complaints, why wouldnt have atleast one or two guys on the weekend going through the tickets/forums
Indeed, Unbelievable...they know this since the day that the P06 was released...The only answer i got was 'Hmm strange, we will have to look into this"... I takes 5 minutes to delete the "empty" iso from the site, and add the working .BIN instead, isn't it ?
Still, i think its weird some people managed to update to P06, when there is no .BIN file in the .ISO isn't it ?

Well that didn't work...
I've had it with this board. As of tomorrow I will be putting an Asus variant into my PC.
1.) Tried my XFI in DTS, all I get is pops and distortion.
2.) Tried my XFI in Dolby, all I get is pops, hissing and distortion.
3.) Tried my XFI in Direct 6 channel, I get hissing, pops and the audio playback is horrible....
4.) Put my USB2 headset in and it sounds alright but after about 5 minutes I start getting pausing and hitching in any audio playback.
Never had this at all with my Asus 780i...
This has by far got to be the worst motherboard I have ever used...

We just downloaded the ISO from the site and were able to flash to the P06 using an IDE DVD drive. With a SATA DVD drive it wouldn't load the CD ROM drivers. I made an image myself but can't test it. This should work. Let me know if anyone has any issues flashing with this one. Can you guys let me know what version you are flashing from so that we can test flashing from the version to the new version. We flashed from the P05V2 to the P06. If someone would prefer the BIN make a support ticket asking for one with the details of what happened with the current ISO, so that I can track it, and PM me your ticket number.

I've downloaded your bios but the flash doesn't work!
I've now P05v2 and i can't upgrade to P06.

I'd like to have file bin to flash with floppy.
Can you post P06.bin file?
Thank's a lot.

i am using a ide dvd drive and when using the iso from the website, it gets to the bios flashing tool and has no file name and then at the botom says please wait. Using the one you just made, it goes into the flasing tool and lists a file name but then states that the program file number does not match with your system. I am flashing from P05V2
Then again this could be related to my memory controller issue

All of the files get stored in a boot partition. They don't show up in a file manager and can't even be extracted from the file through normal means.
This will be easiest for people who don't have floppy drives. If you have one disconnect it. Press Del and go in to Standard CMOS Features. Change Drive A to anything other than none to force a Floopy Disk Failure. At that screen write down the Release number at the top which should look like 8311N3P06 or something similar and the number at the bottom which should look like XFX-6A61MB03C-00. Post them here for me please. These flashes have worked for us here. Did any of you guys force flash another BIOS on top of your old BIOS or anything like that?

I pulled mine and went back to my Intel board. I started it this morning and it went straight to an FF code and stayed there, no video signal, no nothing. It did not cycle through post codes. I tried different ram, moving ram around, clearing the CMOS, clearing the CMOS with the battery out, unplugging it, unplugging the power from the mobo. No matter what I did when the board got power it would go to straight to FF and give me no video and not post. Whatever graphics card that is installed just blasts at 100% fan speed and does nothing.
Obviously I couldn't access the BIOS.

So I couldn't get the Striker II Extreme to try out as its out of stock right now. So I am still stuck using the XFX board.
EVGA P06
1.) EVGA P06 fixes the issue where the PC turns on by itslef when plugging the power cable in.
2.) EVGA P06 I have not seen a lockup yet, but then again the XFX board went at the longest 4 days without a lockup and then spent the 5th day locking every 10 minutes or so.
3.) EVGA P06 still unable to use my Auzentech XFI Prelude.
XFX P06
1.) XFX P06 system turns on by itself again...
2.) XFX P06 was watching the Diablo 3 trailer, yet again, system froze....
3.) XFX P06 still unable to use my Auzentech XFI Prelude.
I took my soundcard out yesterday again and tried it on a Asus Striker Extreme and an Asus Striker II Formula, worked like a charm.
So today I've order the new Creative Labs XFI Titanium, will give it shot and see what happens. If I still have issues with audio, I've already ordered a replacement Asus Striker II Extreme.
I am definately not recommending using the EVGA bios but as it stands now my system is stable without using the XFX bios. Weird...

I had the same situation.
I tried by burning a CD using the downlaoded image file. Booted that and got to the Bios Flashing utilty screen and it just says 'the program file number does not match with your system'. Then, it went back to prompt A:. No flashing happened???

I'm having that same problem with my Creative X-Fi, I took it out on for some reason I dunno when it was working somewhat on the P03 BIOS. I put it back in a month later on P05 and it gives me this horrid cracking and popping noise. It works fine in another computer too...
Still waiting for P06 .bin

Downloaded the .iso file and burned it to a CD. Booted with that and got to the bios flashing utility. However, no flashing happened, it just said 'The program's file number does not match with your system' and then quit to a: prompt.
Did go into the bios and change the floppy option. Booted and obtained these numbers: 811N3P5P and XFX-6A61MB03C-00. Not sure if these are what you wanted though.

1.) XFX P06 system turns on by itself again...
Dude, that is a setting in the BIOS, if your power supply fails, then starts again, your Motherboard will turn on automatically. I also suggest you keep it on incase the power button terminal goes on your board one day.
I am not on my computer right now, so I can't tell you which setting it is, but I know it is there, I took a mental note of it.
Also, note to everyone else. I think XFX released the P06 BIOS on there site so that they appear to be on par with eVGA with updates...even though they aren't. Considering the amount of support tickets over this issue, and they still haven't replaced the file (or at least removed it from there site). It is just business.

The optionis turned on using the EVGA bios. There's issues with the XFX bios.
And there is nothing wrong with my PSU. With the XFX bios my PC could be turned off, I'll be watching TV and it will just turn on. It also turns on when I plug the power cable in, something my Asus boards don't do and the EVGA bios.

Ok I give this bios the thumbs down 10 min into COD4 lockes up change volts and settings same thing losen mem timmings. I really hate this mobo..
can I return this board?
better proformance from P05
also the iso in your post is blank top bottom from XFX site.
I would like to see ATI really give NIVIDI a good kick were it hurts and maybe they may offer some relible products.
Heres an update losend my mem timings from 9 9 9 24 t2 to 9 11 11 32 t2 benched with o6 ok 2 hours of cod locked up press reset 30 min later still unable to get back into vista even with stock settings this bios is as bad as p03 and p04 have reinstalled P05.

Before you losen any timings or what-not, figure out if its the RAM or the Processor that needs to be adjusted....don't just losen the RAM timing when they are fine, for all you know it could be the North or South Bridge voltages. There is lots to consider.
Loving the P06 BIOS, got my Q6600 to 3.4 last night with a 1700 FSB (past the 1400-1650 Hole) with 1.49 in BIOS for CPU, GTLV Lane 0 is 100mV and Lane 1 is 75mV
My Memory is at 1.9 Volts, 1600 MHz and 7-7-7-20-1T Timings (stock...will oc soon)

I went and upgraded to the XFI-Titanium now. Exact same issue that I had with my older XFI. Crackling and popping.....
Edit : Ok... I seem to have gotten my soundcard working. I changed the PCI Latency Timer in the bios from 32 too 64. On my Asus boards 64 is the default setting. The crackling and laggyness have stopped??? I don't know if this will sacrifice performance at all.
My other issue is using the XFI Titanium, which sounds so much better, it shares the IRQ 16 with my video card. I am little concerned over this now. Before the PCI version was IRQ 18.

Because its a flash file, probably not an actual boot disk. Use the ALT+F2 or whatever combo it is to use the onboard flash utility. Then it'll find the files on the CD. Least, that's what I had to do...
