View Full Version : Question about Core temp readouts

I've been monitoring my core temps with various programs. One of these is Smart Fan 4.34. The history charts show that while playing Crysis, the temp for CPU 0 behaves about as expected while CPU 1 and 2 do not move and CPU 3 moves only sightly. I suspect that I have stuck temp probes and Real Temp's Sensor Test confirms this. I'm rather new at OCing and don't know if this is a condition of the CPU or the MB nor if it indicates a bad unit. Could someone enlighten me please?

Also, Smart Fan shows the System temp to be 96C. This is outrageously high and I doubt if its true. CPU temp at idle is about 29C while something called "Temp" is 49C. Could someone let me know what is this temp?

With the system I have, I'm able to run Crysis on mostly high settings now at 1680x1050 with only a slightly OC'd CPU at 3.009 GHz. Video card is not OC'd.

All comments are greatfully accepted.

i dont think its reading correctly . what does the mb report temps as ? ( nv something rather ) as far as system temps , the only things you can check out is the northbridge , south bridge and the phased power array . with the machine running @ 100% reach in and touch the north bridge heat sink and the south bridge heat sinks and see if they are getting hot to the touch . as for the phased power array ( upper left hand corner of the cpu ) that heat sink may woble if you try and touch it ( at least on the Abit Ix38 mb it did @ first which i fixed ) suggestion for that one run machine 100% for a few mins turn it off then see if that is hot when system is powered down . ( i am at a loss on how to check that one out properly )

For temp checking, I would suggest you try: http://www.techpowerup.com/realtemp/

For loading the CPU, Crysis is not so effective and doesn't really use all four CPU cores. If you wish to load test your CPU, the easiest tool for that would have to be OCCT LINK (http://www.ocbase.com/perestroika_en/index.php?Download) which will get temps to rise noticeably... Prime95 can also do the same with its torture/stability tests, and is recommended for its stability testing.

Does the 96C system temp ever change? Or is it a constant 96C? If it does not change it is probably a false reading, SmartFan looks for anything that might be a temp sensor reading and always finds a few that are not.
