View Full Version : Boot time slower?

Why on earth is Vista booting up MUCH slower than it was before on my dual core rig? Considering I've got my quad running at 2.8Ghz and 2Gb's of ram runnning at 1110Mhz; I should be blazing through the boot process. Instead, it's taking twice as long as it once was.

I've tried everything from defragmenting the hardrive to tweaking vista itself. Is there anything that could explain this?

Maybe trim down the startup apps. Might also be whatever antivirus your using or lack thereof and have a virus doing some background activity.

It's not a virus. I just did a fresh install Vista. I checked the error report logs and it seems that I have 88 errors upon boot. :ahhhhh:

Don't know what's going on, but I think I just might go ahead and reinstall Vista again before I get settled in. I think it will ultimately get rid of the problem.

Same problem were with XP.

Something wacked it out recently and booting has become slow. seen it for both Vista and XP lattely.

It can be the "prefetch" feature in the Vista where it automatically load all of your commonly used apps. If you disable pre-fetch, the system may load fater.

I solved my problem. I just reinstalled Vista. lol

It was just too much of a hassle to try and pinpoint the issue. Now that I reinstalled, I load Vista in three full bars or ~30 seconds including post. I returned to stock clocks on the CPU so once I OC again it should be faster. :)

Hmm is it bad to install vista with an overclocked but 24hrs stable system? I never thought about running at stock when installing vista, even though my system is 24hrs prime stable and 12hrs memtest errorfree.

I always reinstall windows overclocked helps it install a little faster. But unless you are 100% sure it is stable, its probably better to do it at stock.
