ok, im trying to download a 9.33 GB torrent with UTorrent. now, the download and upload speeds haven't been going above 30 kB/s. its very, very frustrating for me. now, the setup to get me the net is the net goes into a router, which goes into a switch, which goes to my computer. is that a problem for speed to my computer?

Please don't talk about torrents. Legal or not.

The speed of a download through a BitTorrent protocol can vary since its dependent on the amount of users who are seeding the file you are downloading as well as their upstream bandwidth.

Yea if you have more leechers than seeders or the seeders upload is slow then you will be. Your download is limited by the total upload of other users.
Please don't talk about torrents. Legal or not. From what im to believe talking of legal torrents are compeltely fine.

The router/switch may be keeping others from properly connecting with you which can keep you from sharing your parts of the files which in turn slows your download because those that share the most get priority over everyone else.

too me that sounds like throttleing.
Whats your ISP? who is your provider? google them and see if they are using any sort of traffic shaping that would throttle your torrents.

yeah, im not sure who my provider is, to be honest. im renting out a room in a family friends house, and im just using their net. i know its cable internet, just not sure if its comcast or some other miniscule(sp?) company. but i may have found a work around for getting this beast of a file downloaded.
and yeah, i thought talking about legal torrents would be fine to talk about, thats why i asked about it in here. if it isn't, it would be good information for future reference. don't want to get into trouble here :P

www.speedtest.net will tell you your ISP. If your located in the US you wont be throttled from torrents. Or else you shouldnt be anyways. And i doubt a switch or sharing is slowing it down either. Probably just more leechers than seeders and slow uploads.

I'm glad Korean webs are filled with so called "Web Hard". Getting 370kb for every games and goodies i download. GOODIES. lol. I loved how PC cafe at Korea had crazy internet. 4mb/s for downloading was crazy....I've seen this Korean guy with like 90gb porn collection. It was funny. I saw the screenshot and wuoh, you don't want to know the titles. lol. Funny thing is they are middle + high school students. Just like me. This shows how much p2p or things like file sharing are popular at Korea.
