DiRT runs pretty well even on my old single core P4 3Ghz, X1950Pro, 2GB RAM rig, until I get to the multi vehicle races. This is true for most everyone too, IF you have 5.1 audio enabled. For some reason it plays much better in stereo mode with stereo speakers or headphones.

Creative came out with a patch for better Open AL audio support for DiRT, but I don't know if any other sound card manufacturers did or if Creative's patch does any good performance wise. DiRT is a great game though, but I like GRID a bit better, except for the Drift.

If there's any memory leaks in DiRT it's definitely related to 5.1 audio playback. GRID is much more optimized than DiRT, but it does lag a bit on my single core on the city tracks with narrow sections and concrete barriers, esp when the AI contact one another alot. Modern dual core rigs seem to run GRID very well though.
