View Full Version : Wrath of the Licking King?

Did anyone here get the latest World of Warcraft expansion?

I have - it's nothing earth-shattering, some of the stuff is a bit too silly (Sea lions on turtles? Really?) but some of it is very nice. Reached lvl 71 after 4 hours of exploring.

I'm surprised at how stable my server has been since the release too - a single 10-seconds hiccup, and today's extended maintenance.

So overall a solid expansion, but more of the same. Haven't tried death knight yet.

What do you think?

I haven't played it but I'd think it was Wrath of the Lich King. Wrath of the Lick King while funny wouldn't be real practical.

Here's the King "He's licking people stop him."

I never got into WOW, boring and bad graphics. This is coming from a level 125 in RuneScape wasting 5 years of my life before the HD graphics update.

The expansion (actually the patch) has improved WoW's graphics slightly, but most people have not noticed. Things like fish schools have more jumping fishes in them, more special effects, etc.

I can't believe I typed 'lick'... Sometimes I think my fingers have brains of their own - and they're not very good brains.

And RS sure looks a heck of a lot better than WoW.

I almost got it but after burning crusade I can't afford the time sink anymore not to mention the monthly fees. Death knight class was pretty fun in the beta though.

Death knights can eat my hot little fireballs.

They are horrible to fight in pvp as a mage. You get silenced for longer than you live, and if you do meet a sucky one (maybe one that's 6 lvls lower than you, it helps) it rezzes after you kill it so that you're out of mana and out of luck.

I used to hate Warlocks... But now I found an ever more horrible reason not to pay the montly fees!

Also, my girlfriend still has that brand-new-gf smell. :)

I got it the day of release. I was very impressed with how well Blizzard handled the launch given how many issues they had with recent patches. I started a Death Knight after getting my two level 70's to the new zones. At first I was disappointed in the Death Knight starting area but then it got good and was a lot of fun but was over much too fast. Overall I think it's a great class and I'm enjoying it a lot. Just got to level 69 last night with the DK. The starting zones are certainly a refreshing change from the burning crusade content but while there are some very unique quests, most quests are very similar to what they've always been. Kill x of x or collect x of x. I'll certainly continue to play the game at least until all my characters are level 80.

I skipped this expansion.

After grinding my life away to level 60, to spends weeks and weeks and months of my life gathering a full set of Epic gear prior to the first expansion... all to have the gear instantly become replaced by more power 'chaff' drops from typical zone creatures and easy general 'quests' .... it sorta jaded me to playing any further. I only lastd 2 weeks into burning crusades.

What it comes down to is the expansion ups the cap on your stat numbers... so you can grind further to get that next item with +1 of some stat.. to grind some more to increase another +1 stat.

Rather than enjoy a story, a plot, and be entertained... weeks and months turn into a monotony of get this, kill this questing for the sake of getting better gear to make yourself look more cool than the guy standing next to you in game. So you are then able to grind and get more gear. Rinse, recycle, repeat.

I may not be entirely on the ball here. I am jaded about WoW. Probably because it sucked up FAR too much of my time. Since I actually stopped, I have picked up multiple non-gaming related hobbies (astronomy and beer brewing), I get sleep at night.. have lots of time with the family... and can still get in an adequate amount of gaming.

You are still right about WoW. It is a grinding game if you're not enjoying the trade spam, socializing with your guild or doing the silly holiday quests. The latest expansion doesn't change that, however the quest stories are often better (not all of them) and there are some interesting new twists like locations that change if you've done certain quests. For example there's an area where horde and alliance are fighting the lich king's forces until you do a certain quest, then the lich king's forces are gone when you come back and you never see them there again.

It's not earth-shattering but I think it shows some slow progress for MMO mechanics in general.

My goal is to get to 80 fairly quickly, do some raids and then stop playing for the rest of the year till the next expansion comes out. :)

i dropped WOW around March of this year, haven't missed it. went to Age of Conan, plaid it for a a month, haven't missed it. went to WAR, and although i do enjoy Warhammer, after the 4 years of WOW, i just can't bring myself to log onto an MMO. im enjoying beating my other games, the ones with endings? so although i do miss the companionship that MMO's can bring out, it doesn't beat RL communications.

A moderator here needs to correctly rename this thread title. Every time I look at it it looks like sleazy porn. Somehow World of Porncraft just doesn't sound right.

I hadn't even noticed the title, I always saw it as Lich King.

Death Knights will be horribly nerfed in the near future. I have only brought mine to lv 59 and the dps potential is already through the roof! I decided to go with the Blood talent tree and am pretty happy with it. With the Blood Auro helping me to regen 2% of my already insane dps I can solo elites 3 to 4 levels higher than me and end the fight with a full or close to full health bar. I get all giddy when I see those little blood worm buddies of mine appear! lol All in all I am having a new found fun with the game that I am enjoying quite a bit.

I dropped WoW awhile ago and haven't looked back since. It just seemed like a waste of time to me, leveling up and getting gear for really nothing. It didn't make me feel good, but that's just me, I never really like mmorpgs but I played cause of my friend and I quit cause he stopped playing. >_

I have been thinking about buying the WoW series, but i just think I should have to pay $15 a month. Now they should already have to stop that since they make like billions of dollars a year alone.

I'm an FPS guy too, but I just tried it for a couple days and it sucked me in. Coupling that with playing with friends it really made it worse. I thought it looked boring too and I hated mmorpgs back then.
