My Icemat Siberia's are dying out and I fried the sound card that came with it. So I'm looking for a new gaming headset, preferably surround sound (5.1 or 7.1, doesn't matter) at around $80. I don't want to spend more than $100 out the door. Any suggestions?

Don't want to shell out $85 for headphones by the same manufacturer. I was reading some reviews and several people complained that after 1 year of use they died out ( 5H V2). Plus, from what I hear, the sound card sucks.

Any other suggestions?

I'd recomend the Logitec Clearchat wireless headset

a 20$ rebate is bound to come arround for that soon + you can get 5-8% off if you are a new customer.

Aside for the price its pretty good. Sound wise it lacks a bit from high end wired headsets and you'll notice difference only if you are a real sound freak.

For me its ideal for chat, gaming, skyping and music.

I had the Cyber Snipa Sonar 5.1 for awhile. Yeah they're not a big name brand like Logitech or Steel but the quality was very good, very comfortable to wear, great positional audio, awesome sound. BUT the only problem I had with them was I could not get them to work with 5.1 audio and the microphone at the same time, would generate an error that it exceeded USB bandwidth. Standard 2-channel and mic, no problem. Tried 2 completely different systems, XP and Vista, verified USB 2.0, etc. Their tech support claimed that some others had reported the same problem but they could not help me with a resolution. I ended up selling them. I am using just a standard 2-ch headset from TekNmotion now, the Yapster. They also have a 7.1 headset you might want to check out, the Pulsar SX. I am impressed with the TekNmotion quality as well despite being an "off-brand", especially for the price.

I use the Tritton AX360 true 5.1 surround headphones. They have 4 jacks that go directly into your soundcard, and don't have any USB or drivers that need tweaking. I believe they can also be used with an optical connection, but I find they offer good 5.1 surround in most games just straight into my soundcard

They may be a little pricey though, but I think they can be had for around $100. They are well constructed, comfortable, have a mic., and have lasted me so far. I think they work on the Xbox 360 too.
