What are you guys thinking about the new series? I'm sure your all excited about the contest, but being that there's more than one person entered don't count on winning, so lets try to keep this about buying one.

I gotta use my EVGA bucks on something so I'm gonna wait for nVidia's offerings but more specifically their midrange card(GTX360 or whatever its gonna be called)

Almost pulled the trigger on a 5850. I've got a 4850 now, and I usually skip a generation -- so it says something that ATI has me considering an upgrade.

However, it would be crazy not to wait for Nvidia's response. Even if I don't go back to the Nvidia fold, that 5850 is likely to be cheaper then.

I feel the need for a DX11 card. Just having all these new features makes my programmer side drool. I know there's a chance I won't actually get to try them (instead spending my time on hardware sites :)), but I really do have plans to try them. I'm currently waiting to see what the 57x0 cards will be like. Might get one of them, as I'm sure it'd be a step up in performance from my 3870.

I am not sure Nvidia's offerings will be DirectX11 however. Not only are they downplaying it themselves...http://xbitlabs.com/news/video/display/20090916140327_Nvidia_DirectX_11_Will_Not_Catalyze _Sales_of_Graphics_Cards.html But they are also threatened by it because it will help the ATI cards with Physics with Havok. Mind you Havok would work as well on the Nvidia cards but Nvidia does not want to see their PhysX go down the tubes either. So what I am thinking is going to happen is that 1) Nvidia is going to be DirectX10. 2) Nvidia is going to be DirectX11 but with some things disabled as a marketing attempt to blame Havoc for breaking games and DirectX11 dies in the water like 10.1. 3) They bite the bullet and come out with a fully working DirectX 11 card going toe to toe with Havok causing a awesome Physics battle which we will all benefit from.

I'm going to wait and see what comes out and then decide to either upgrade to a newer Nvidia card or keep what I have until a later card comes out.

Just got a 5870 in. Ran it last night, gotta do voltages, temperatures, and OCing and I can start coding the review.

From the reviews the cards look like they have some serious horsepower but I wish ATI had developed more new features to go with the cards. Eyefinity is interesting but I doubt I will ever use it. ATI seems to be pushing the "potential" of the new cards but right now they feel a lot like extensions of the 48XX lineup with full DX11 support. I will be holding off on an upgrade for a while. I really want to see what the green team brings to the table and I want to see some competition with prices.

If I was to go with a HD58xx card I would opt for the HD5850.

Wow thats the most biased crap ive ever heard. :dielaffin:

On another note im a little bit scared at this:
http://images.bit-tech.net/news_images/2009/09/first-fermi-card-pictured/fermi1.jpg

one 8 pin connector? Im further frightened by this picture:

Im sorry, but those sauder marks sure don't line up...

If you look closely in both pictures, it looks like the back of the PCB was cut.

I'm gonna build my first computer in 1 or 2 months, will probably buy a 5850 then.

Nvidia already reported that it was just a mockup and not the real card after everyone made fun of them for it. So that is not the real Fermi. No worries.

I'm quite pleased with my current HD4870 OC at the time. Still runs everything I throw at it at very high settings so there's still time left for me. By the time the games get to be more demanding, the prices of new series will probably get more realistic. I will reconsider then.:icon_tiphat:

Well my system is a bit outdated, especially my graphics card. I have (i know it's very old) a Nvidia 8500GT 512Mb. I can still run the latest games but not maxed.
I think i'm gonna wait till the new Nvidia cards come out and maybe then, when the prices drop, i'll get a 5850, probably the Vapor-X version from Sapphire which should be coming soon.

I've been eyeing them and I've decided to get make it an eventuality to have one.

I am kind of a videocard whore, but it is cheaper and indeed more useful than being a cpu whore, haha. (More useful in that they are easier to share with friends and can be used multifunctionally.)

Well thats good to hear. Just wonder why they made a mockup instead of the real thing. My guess would be they want the card to be shorter, so they just cut it off as a temperary fix. Either that or they ran out of high end heatsinkes and had to make the chip fit on a mid range one.

I think I'll just let the oppportunity pass, as I just recently upgraded my 8800GTX to a new GTX275.

Since I'm nVidia fan, I think my next Video Card will be one of the GTX3xx ones, I guess I'll be able to afford my next upgrade only in a year or two...so there might be even better cards than the 300 till then...

Tch, I'm not upgrading until there's a game that can actually stress my current card. Maybe if a DX11 game comes out that I REALLY want to play, I'll consider getting a 57** series card... =\

I'm currently happy with what I have now in the way of video cards. I don't play any games which require anything more than onboard video, however I do fold. If Stanford ever gets it worked out where ATI is equal or better than Nvidia at folding, then I may think about changing.

If GT 300 is all it's advertised to be, I doubt that's going to happen soon...

I'm tempted by the hd5850, but it's hard to justify upgrading from a hd4870 right now. I'll wait for the prices to come down and for cards with third party cooling before i upgrade again. Waiting for the GT300 probably won't hurt either, it can only mean even lower priced ATI cards, i might even go nvidia again if the price is right.

Waiting for the prices to go down :exactly:Anyways I think I will buy a 5770 very soon for a new build :whistler:

I'd love one but can't really justify purchasing one yet. Being I have Windows 7 it would be nice to have DirectX 11 ready to use but I don't hardly play many games and don't even purchase the very latest ones often. My 4830 OC will have to suffice for now.

I`ll skip this one ,only if I have a luck of wining one but that is a miserable chance, I`ll wait for 6xxx ati`s gpu,
I have 4850x2,and temporarily satisfied .
Glad that ati made this very good 5xxx gpu`s.

I am having my eyes on 5770 but maybe after 3 months or after "first" price cuts

I'm hoping for the 5850. I've never seen so much excitement on the net over a computer component, as they are about the 5xxx series cards...
