I'd like to brag a bit (;-)) and share with you guys that I just bought about two weeks ago a new Mobile Phone, the Samsung Omnia II GT-i8000, a smartphone based on Windows Mobile 6.5.

I bought it from a seller in Singapore through Ebay for $515.

It is ten times better than my previous (WM 6.1 based) E-Ten (now belongs to Acer) Glofiish X800 phone.

It has a 3.7" AMOLED LCD, built-in GPS, 5MP Camera and it comes it built-in 8GB of storage.

It's about the same size as iPhone, but I personally a fan of Windows Mobile. I know...Windows Mobile has its flaws, but I think the guys at Microsoft did a great job with WM6.5.

For those of you who aren't familiar with the device, here's a link to its product page over Samsung website:
http://omnia.samsungmobile.com/omnia2/

If any of you would like to share some information about the phone, feel free...

I'm also interested to know if any of you purchased or planning to purchase this phone???

Wow, that makes my current phone look like something that was made in the 1960's. I don't really use my cell much so I just have a basic LG phone.

That's OK. Don't feel bad. ;-) I'm mainly using my Omnia II as just a phone and for GPS navigation. I'm barely using the rest of its functions/features...but since I'm Gadgets Freak, that's why I bought it.

I didn't ever think I'll use the Built-In Camera, but after I saw its quality (5MP), it's good to know that I have a nice camera, which I carry with me wherever I go. ;-)

Oh...and BTW, since it has G-Sensor/Accelerometer Motion Sensor, it has some nice games that support it. But like I said, I prefer playing on my main rig and not on my phone, unless...you know, you're spending some time in the toilet...

I have not seen that phone offered here in the states. I like the way it looks. Is there a lot of apps for it? I have an iPhone 3G, but my service is crappy in some locations (including my house). I would have gone with a blackberry, but my wife decided that we (i.e she needed the iPhone, and I had to show her how to use it) needed iPhones about 5 month ago.

Have fun with your new phone. It will come in handy to take those candid pics of your twins.

It isn't the best cellphone but I like the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic that I got in Christmas  So I am not planning to buy another cellphone for a long time :whistler:

I love the GPS too  I don't have guided maps but Google Maps already helped me when I was lost looking for a building

Well, enjoy your new Omnia II and your new Sapphire PSU ;-)

Thanks guys!

Yes, there are tons of applications for it, some are free and some are not. Samsung even launched its own 'SamsungApps' application store, similar to 'iPhone Apps', even though it still doesn't come close to what Apple has to offer for the iPhone. ;-)

Regarding its Camera...Yeah, I'm pretty sure it'll come handy, mainly for taking pictures of the twins.

Thanks again...

Toilet gaming FTW! :dielaffin:
It is a cool looking phone but I wouldn't pay no $500 for a phone !

Glad I made you laugh...;-) But that's true, gaming on a Mobile Phone never DID it to me and the only time I played games on my Mobile Phone, were the times I've been in the toilet.

Regarding paying $500 for a Mobile Phone, you may be right, but like I said before, I'm a gadgets freak. I'm a guy who's willing to pay $500 (or sometimes more :ahhhhh:) for a high-end Video Card and the same goes for a high-end Mobile Phone...at least for me. ;-)

If you say so... ;-)

Anyway, my twins finally fell asleep and it's 00:20 here in Israel.

Going to catch like 3-4 hours of sleep before they wake up again.

Hopefully they won't wake up at the same time, so wife will take care of them...or at least one of them, as I need to wake up for work at 7:00...:ahhhhh:

c'ya tomorrow. ;-)

Very nice! I am actually looking for a new phone right now. don't know if $500+ for a phone is worth it for me at least. I am still using an old Samsung A707 Sync with a broken front screen. I am also looking for a smart phone that has a full keyboard becuause I hate typing on a touch screen. My friend has the Droid and I really like it and you can pick it up fot $150 at newegg.com

I use a G1. I'm a fan of the Android phones.

Google keeps everything opensource so there are custom OS upgrades out there and pretty much any app you can think of that is pay you can find an alternate for free. You can also put a full linux distribution like Debian on it if your that much of a geek lol. You just have to root your phone first.

I use it as a wireless tether at work all the time and don't have to pay for a separate tether plan lol.

Fans of Adnroids should go with the Google Nexus One.

Windows Mobile Fans who are willing to spend $500-$700 on a Mobile Phone, should either go with the Samsung Omnia II (cheaper option) or...the more expensive HTC HD2.

But again, if one likes Apple, the iPhone still has no competitors in terms of touch-screen responsiveness and the variaty of apps...

First of all, welcome aboard to the forums.

Man...I didn't imagine that this thread will ever come to life. Did you see the last time I posted in this thread...almost a YEAR ago.

It's surely not a knock-off nor clone, as I'm using it for more than a year now.

This thread is so old that I'm already planning on replacing the Omnia II i own with the iPhone 4.

Still thinking whether I should buy the iPhone 4 or...wait for the iPhone 5 that according to some rumours should get released by July this year (2011). ;-)
