Ok, thought it might be neat to see how everyones system fared with Futuremark's latest and greatest. Post up your 3DMark05 scores here and I'll make a list of the Top 20 from the Bjorn3D forums.
Test must be ran at stock 1024x768, no AA, to keep it a level playing field. No need to link to your Futuremark stats, I trust everyone here. Please include your Overall Score, and your overall CPU Score. Ranking will be based on Overall Score. Also, post up your system if you feel like it.
List will be updated randomly throughout the day.

I've felt that pain before.
Yep, you've discovered the ugly truth from first hand experience Gray, they've pulled out all the stops with this one. NO backward compatability whatsoever. If you're hardware isn't fully DX9 compliant, with hardware support for Pixel Shaders up to 2.0 then it's a no go and won't run at all.
Cheap DX9 Upgrade? 9600XT works well enough in my rig for Doom3 and Counterstrike Source. Seems to work well enough even the the Half-life stress test. There are other options of course and if you're willing to wait a while longer, there'll be all kinds of price drops coming up too. Unfortunately the hardware we buy today probably won't run 3DMark07 or whatever they'll call it. Endless cycle.
If you're happy with your gaming performance for now, keep the 8500 and wait for the ever eventual price cuts and get the best thing you can afford.
On the other hand, if you're dying to see what ~1500 3DMarks looks like, you could go with a Radeon9600XT. I couldn't find anything better locally than the AIW9600XT, that I thought would both 'do the trick' and fit my meagher budget.

Guess not huh? :o
I agree that probably the processor makes a large difference.
I'm using the extremely affordable XP2500+ OC to XP3200+ speeds. It's running at an FSB of 207. I suspect it could go further though I haven't tried it. I find it plenty fast for everything, though a shiny new Socket 939 motherboard and Athlon64 3500+ would sure be sweet!

When running this test earlier today I decided to see how high I could OC my 9800 Pro. I ended up at 461 core 367 memory. Pretty good jump on the core from a 380 default. I was wondering if anyone else here had a 9800 pro and what kind of overclocks they were getting. I have a VGA silencer on the card for cooling as well as some little ram sinks.

I'm confused how some of these 2+ generations old video cards are beating the 5950Us combined with A64s. Weird... I'm not doubting people's honesty; it just seems odd.

I'll ask around about getting this to be a sticky.
List was already updated, and I have thought about making it the TOP 20, but we don't even have that many results yet, maybe the TOP 15 first? I think keeping the number smaller helps to make it more competetive to keep your spot on the list.
EDIT: Yeah, I was really surprised at the crappy results I got. I even OC'd the 5950 and got only a slight increase. Guess we just have to wait for those 6xxx cards Chad.

hi,
when I disabled the HT the scores actually dropped.
also new drivers upped the score quite a bit.
HT allows the CPU to work and run the GPU.
my guess is the A64 3200 is having to choose between it doing the work and delegating it to the GPU.
the HT Intels don't have that "problem"
what happens if you up the priority on the GPU in windows task manager? (make sure u don't crash the system)
when that Alienware w/ P4 3.6 is out of warranty, apparently they can go up to 4.0 quite happily if you got a good one.
but on Intel's web site they nearly got busted by the P4 3.4
makes me think its the first batch of 4.0's underclocked as everybody knows the first yields are not so hot. and its exactly 10% below 4.0
Ghidora, you folding on that rig?
its good for over 10,000 points per month.
still can't believe the X800XT PE beat a SLI combo, NVidia must need to badly update their drivers. (or they messed up-again)
does memory affect the overall and teh CPU score?
see they're up to 675Mhz DDR2 now!

Well I have been complimented and known for my AMD set up skills since I got into AMD about 1 1/2 years ago. My 2500+ systems consistantly beat higher speed CPU's of bothAMD and Intel. Dunno if maybe it could b my RAM, right now it's running @225 w/ timings of 6,2,2,2. If u want something freakier I ran 05 this afternoon and got a CPU score of 4,382 (which I of course took a SS of), then w/out shutting the benchie prog down I re-ran it and got 4,675  :o I then shut down 05 and restarted it and ran it again and got 3,971. HOWEVER throughout the testing the actuall overall score stayed the same giving me 1,676, 1,678,& 1,676 over those 3 runs - guess the CPU bench side of things doesn't work so good, or I've got a freak system.

deleted unnecessary tasks, like UPS.exe, which writes every 2 seconds, and ran.
5100/4550 w/fps 23/14.1/26.2 cpu 2.4/3.8 (in details tab)
then, as P4 w/HT 3.2 has 1MB L2 cache, re-ran as expected pre-fetch to hit almost 100%
5086/4901 w/fps 23.1/13.9/26.2 cpu 2.8/3.9
the video card hit 62C temp, so its no wonder it slowed down.

well, I think even for most site's benchmark are done with clean windows installation without any background software and unneed drivers. So, we have to realize the benchmark that we run are not exactly according to the review sites. Our system all got tons of background softwares running and maybe lots of junk drivers, softwares, etc. So we usually should get lower score. If we really want to be exact compare just basic system, then we all should do a clean installation and run the benchmark.
You guys are so lucky to know what's your system's performance, Man, I really need to get a good card to run my system. Can't even run 3dmark05 due to super old graphic card.

Little bit better than my 9800 pro. Can't wait to get this thing tweaked in and see how much higher I can get. Just updated this with my latest score. A bit higher OC on the cpu and card

Test must be ran at stock 1024x768, no AA, to keep it a level playing field. No need to link to your Futuremark stats, I trust everyone here. Please include your Overall Score, and your overall CPU Score. Ranking will be based on Overall Score. Also, post up your system if you feel like it.

Using the 66.81 drivers with Forceware 5.14. If the Omega drivers would give me an increase I might consider trying them out.

New Score 2108 / 3894
Thermal deal in the chip must have been skipping cycles before, cuz that's a big improvement on CPU score. 630 point difference from the first time I ran it.
I still have some fiddling to do. I know from some other tests I can get some more out of my old 9700pro.

okay, thanks for the forum i got a directx 9 card that I can finally give it a benchmark and post my result here. Maybe I can make it to the list.
3dmark05=1099
cpu mark= 3438
BTW, I got a lot of 1 fps during the benchmark, is this normal? is it because my card is not the fastest or this is how the benchmark is done?
SAM what card are you using?
1fps is definatly not how the demo should run. :(
I can't even run it. I have an ATI 8500 64MB and being directX 8 it's no good as you know.

Actually, that's not too uncommon w/o a current mid-range or high-end board. When I had my 5950 Ultra in, I was getting low single-digits for FPS. Makes you feel lowsy doesn't it... :?
Victor

Reyawn
12-10-2004, 06:28 PM
it certainly is better, but compared to the new stuff... ;)
It runs HL2 and CS:Source very well, but unfortunately there is no DX9 support in game for GeforceFX cards (unless you force it) so the graphics quality suffers a tad (pretty much the only difference is in the water quality).

what do you mean that it does not run DX9? I thought the geforceFX card are capable of directx 9?
The Doctor
12-11-2004, 08:29 AM
GF-FX cards are certainly DX9 capable but DX9 performance on cards below FX 5900's is lousy so the theory is that Valve programmed HL2 to use the DX8.1 code path by default on FX cards to provide acceptable performance.
Reyawn
12-11-2004, 05:32 PM
yea, although I've seen some DX9 stuff run nicely on my system as well...so maybe Valve was just biased? I guess we'll never know!
All I know is that it runs great on the DX8.1 codepath (with high detail textures and all) so I'm happy.

I get huge score differences with a change to ambient room temperature. When I run the heater in the room my scores drop considerably even if CPU and or GPU temps never go above what we would consider normal operating temperature. I'm pretty damned sure of this. I have checked the temperatures about a dozen different ways.
GPU scores aren't as dramatic as CPU though. When the room is warm I get high 2000's up to low 3000's. If I turn the heat off and freeze myself and let the ambient drop to below 50f or so my CPU score can easily get into the low 4000's. I have a record of 4419 for CPU. I don't think that's too bad for a non-OC'd P4 2600.
Odd thing I always notice though... If the CPU score goes up, invariably the GPU goes down and of course visa versa. Haven't quite figured that one out yet.

new drivers for GPU & CPU
Dell XPS Gen3 p4 3.2 HT/1GB DDR2/533 X800XT/256MBDDR3
first run 5539/4489
2nd run 5578/4446 (OD)
The Gen4 only has in GeForce 6800Ultra, will run shortly ans see, but it shouldn't top the X800XT. Then again the Gen3 cost $1,885 and the Gen4 $1,058. (p4 3.4)
Dual core announced to launch 2nd quarter on Intel's web site.
That'll definately bump the CPU scores.

It shouldn't take any tweaking to get over 5000 with a FX-55, assuming you don't have the CPU clock underclocked accidentally.

From what I've seen my score of 7919 isn't that bad compared to some other ones so yeah I am once again glad and honored to rank amongst the higher scores without having sli and only having a sinlge card and overclocking my hardware not too much

Hmm i downloaded 3Dmark06 last night. With everything stock i got 5199. Then i put my cpu back up to 3.33ghz and got 5480. Is that about right for that amount of overclock? Do i need full version of 06 to get individual CPU and Gfx scores? Guess ill have to d/l 05 so i can compare
Edit: Haha just found the 3DMark06 thread

3dmark05 is still a great benchmark, I don't see nothing wrong with it.
Many reviewers still use it along with 06.
