like the topic said, What Power Supply do you have? are you going to upgrade it? and why you chose it?

--------
I have Allied 400w which is quite good, the only thing i dont like on this PSU was it runs to hot and the rail was not good enough.
I was thinking of getting a Fortron 530W or Ultra X-Connect. what do you guys would recommend between those two PSU?

I upgraded from a 300W to a 480W Thermaltake Silent Purepower when I upgraded my graphics card to a 5950U. I needed all the extra molex connectors I could get, and this one had plenty. I got it a NewEgg at a good price.

I have a vantec 470 watt its does its job and its pretty quiet, it has different settings for the fan too. I dont see myself buying another one for another 3 years or so, matter fact I dont see myself getting a new computer til then either.

See sig.

I got it cuz the local computer store was willing to trade for some of the work I do. Other words...I put some vinyl graphics on their storefront, and inside walls. Computer logos and such. Was a great trade.

Well I have a few PSU's ( I don't sell my old systems, I keep them and use them as comps for people who come to my LANs I hold and don't have a comp or have never been and r scared to bring theirs for the 1st time) I have two Antec's a TrueBLUE 480W which I bought when I upgraded to my Ti4400 (which is now deceased :( ) and my 350W True Power I got when I purchased my current case whilst I was last in Canada. I also own an Enermax 365W and a couplke generics from days gone by.

Just remembered the Ultra-X and was going to recomend it when I saw it in ur SIG. I saw it here (http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=273002&ps=ho10) last week for only $99 US (great price I paid $110 for my Antec 480W) and Bit-Tech.net gave it a good review (http://www.bit-tech.net/review/338/)

got an antec truepower 380w with my antec sonata's case. It works fine with my configuration, not sure if I upgrade my graphic card would it holds up. Read few reviews online and seems like this little baby can holds up to the 9800 card. We'll see.

I just went from an Antec TruePower350 to a XG Vigor 450 and I love it. Sleeved, windowed, chrome and only $56.

I went with a Thermaltake Silent Purepower 480w power supply when I upgraded to an IC7 Max3 and a 3ghz P4 a while back. No particular reason I chose it other than it had a lot of power, it fit my budget, and it got some decent reviews on the net.

Currently using an Enlight 420w job with my AXP, but I've ordered a 500w X-Connect for my P4, that should be together by the time I can get a video card. Damn, I hate working on this stupid Athlon when I can look across the room and see a machine at least twice as fast, and completely useless.

Hum nice looking, but I prefer the Ultra-X w/ it's removeable connectors. Also that window is on the wrong side of the PSU to b of any usefullness, unless u have an acrylic/clear case or 1 of thenew V1000 Lian Li's.

It has two windows, on opposite sides. Yes, the X-connect's wires are better, but it's also $50 more than the Vigor 450...

I actually got another brand new allied PS that's 500w. I wonder which one is better, my current antec 380w or the allied 500w.

In addition, I have another computer that's running the enermax PS (not sure wattage, but I think more tahn 350w).

Hmm...power supply...

Well, considering that I have written a couple reviews on 'em already and have one in progress...

1) I-star TC400R8 (http://www.bjorn3d.com/read.php?cID=429)...got this monster working in my server 24/7! It's been running great for around 6 months now.

2) Coolmax CR-500B (http://www.bjorn3d.com/read.php?cID=688)...this one is in my main system.

3) Right now I'm taking a look at some new products by Cleverpower (http://www.cleverpower.com/), a newcomer to the market. Review is comin soon :).

I'm using an Enermax 300W (yeah my computer is old). I chose Enermax because I heard they were good. I'd never go with a cheaper brand because they often don't output the wattage they claim to be. You could buy a cheap "500W" PSU that actually only outputs 300W. Plus there's the reliability factor. My friend had a cheap PSU that overheated and started smoking! It ended up frying his mobo too! (from power fluctuations, not heat)

Also wanted to say that my next PSU will be silent! Enermax isn't exactly noisy, but it's definitely not silent.

I have a PC Power & Cooling 425 ATX-Deluxe in the computer that I am on now. P4 2.8 Northwood, 5950 Ultra, 1.5GB ram.

I have an Enermax Noisetaker EG701AX (600W) for a computer that I am slowly :( putting together.... I also have for this one a P4 570 (3.8GHz) CPU. Haven't decided for sure whether or not I'm going SLI or single card.

I actually got another brand new allied PS that's 500w. I wonder which one is better, my current antec 380w or the allied 500w.I've had Allied power supplies before and while I don't consider them to be in the upper echelon of ps's, I've never had one fail on me before. I think if you're gonna load the computer down, I'd take a safer route and buy well known higher wattage power supply.

David_LS

For now I would go with a single 7800GTX or 7800GT. Games are going to have to require more from the graphics card to really justify 7800GTX in SLI. I would get an SLI motherboard though so you could go SLI when you want.

Just my thoughts.

I just bought the Magnum 500W from www.xgbox.com. It's truly amazing. After doing my homework and reading tons of reviews, I decided to go ahead and spend the $120. (Though xgbox.com is doing a promo where they'll send you a Free Mod Kit w/ the purchase).

Anywho, the thing's amazing. It has 600W and 500W output along with a completely silent dB and the most advanced airflow and cooling design. The 2mm thick anodized aluminum chassis also has LCD display (shows temp., wattage and all three voltage lines, voltage activity lights; two PCI express power connections and 20 + 4 pin connector; external radiator to keep heat outside the system; and magnetically shielded UV modular cables).

Go to www.xgbox.com to check it out and their PC cases look sweet too.

I like the X-Connect PSU's. I especially like their design and flexibility, which allows you to connect only the required amount of MOLEX connectors.

werty316
12-04-2005, 09:31 PM
Modular PSU are one big step for PSU I gotta say. I like Ultra's new FlexForce cable design too. Its great they developed these becasue the X-Connects cables are stiff especially the motherboard power cable.

Oh man that's an old thread. Anyway I'm currently running Thermaltake's PowerStation 520W (http://www.bjorn3d.com/read.php?cID=846) also modular. Performs really great, especially with OC'd CPU and video card

Those Thermaltake Powerstations are pretty sweet. Their new to me. I like there PurePower TWV500W Series. I guess they finally are just everyone else. Other PSU I like is the OCZ ModStream, and Ultras new X2.

Yeah, now you are talking, werty316. When you said OCZ, you said everything. I really like OCZ PSUs. I think they're the only ones who develop PSU especially for overclockers and advanced users.

I really like their OCZ Powerstream 600W. Too bad I can't afford one.

I'm using the Antec NeoPower 480. It's nice and quiet.

The modular cables are great. I've only got two plugged in so that leaves lots of free space in the system.

zachig
12-05-2005, 04:35 PM
The Antec NeoPower 480W is also a great PSU. I was considering it when I upgraded my PSU, but it was much more expensive than my current Thermaltake PurePower 480W so I gave up on it.

And regarding its modularity. Damn, I like these Modular PSU's!!! Too bad mine is not. :(

BlackStar
12-05-2005, 04:40 PM
The NeoPower isn't the least expensive, that's for sure. Especially now that some higher wattage modulars have hit the market. The NeoPower's price hasn't come down much.

And you definitely pay a preminum for the modular compaired to the standard versions.

zachig
12-05-2005, 05:06 PM
The Antec NeoPower is still pretty expensive (while compared to no-name companies and/or non-modular PSU's).

And yeah, you are right. It all depends on how much you are willing to pay for a product!

If something is expensive it is probably worth it. And if something is cheap, probably you're not going to get a fantastic product. That's the truth.

BlackStar

I've used generic powersupplies for years (Sparkle?) and never had a problem. I did replace the cooling fan in 2 units that got loud or stopped working, but that was after 5 or 6 years of service.

They still work. Those PCs aren't good for much but some older games that act weird on a high speed CPU and XP.

I wouldn't OC on a generic power supply.

werty316
12-05-2005, 08:01 PM
I have a 350W Antec lying around from a while back plus a few dead generic POS PSU before I learned my lesson about not using quality PSUs.

BlackStar
12-05-2005, 10:51 PM
Ouch. Sound like an expensive lesson.

werty316
12-06-2005, 01:14 AM
Well not really. They were mostly 300W POS so no really big loss though for amount of ones I killed I could have gotten a quality PSU but when you start out you need to learn things. Some people still need to about PSU. Its all about the quality.

zachig
12-06-2005, 06:30 AM
I still prefer buying one quality PSU instead of several junkey generic PSUs.

werty316
12-06-2005, 06:49 AM
I had to learn the hard way.

BlackStar
12-06-2005, 03:01 PM

12-06-2005, 10:00 PM

I do feel the need to point out again that my NeoPower 480 blew up on me, and has been RMA'd. I'm happy with Antec's customer service.

werty316

I am sure as I had a 350W Antec and it worked fine.

BlackStar
12-06-2005, 10:11 PM
I don't blame Antec. It was weird. I plugged in the fan senor to the MB and the PSU wouldn't turn on. After that it wouldn't work with the cable unplugged, either.

I suppose I may have pushed it on the fan header incorrectly. Not sure how to do that without bending something.

werty316
12-07-2005, 01:48 AM
Well they only go in one way. Its like seeing someone using a hammer to put a stick on ram the wrong way or trying to force a S754 cpu into a S939 board. I am not surprised if some people actually did this.

BlackStar
12-07-2005, 06:43 PM
That's what I was thinking. I tested the header with another fan and power supply. Everything there looked good. Maybe it was just ready to die.

Currently running I have an OCZ 450 Modstream in one system and the Enermax Liberty 400 in another. I've got a Hiper 580 Type R waiting for system number 3 if I ever get my XFX video card situation RMA'd and settled.

They all run pretty quiet and seem to have sufficient power for the respective systems (which I'll get to adding specs to sig soon). Thinking I may upgrade the OCZ to a Mushkin 550 (seems good for the price) as the OCZ's cables are way too stiff for some of the things I'd like to do. Plus the black and green of the Mushkin would fit in better with the case mods I have planned.

I replaced an Antec TruePower 430 for a Cooler Master iGreen 430 on my server w/ raid array. The rest of my "always-on" machines have Enermax Noisetakers (350 & 380 W).

Which means my on-demand machines have pretty cheap & noisy PSUs that I have to listen to these days because of all the folding. :) The Antec will go into one of those as soon as I can route a cable to a closet, it's sort of "old school" loud, not unusual but certainly not quiet, and with 6 machines in my little office, quiet is good.

Isn't this a bit of an old topic though?

Yeah, I saw the 2005 date and blinked!

Mirrim, I already posted my thoughts on a PSU in the dual +12v rail thread so I won't clog the forum up with another oversized post of mine! But I will add that the Mushkin PSU is longer/deeper than the normal PSU as well....

I currently have a 400watt Antec SL400, which is really not that great. It works, but the rail voltages were all a good notch below what I would want to see, even if well within specs.

I just picked up a Antec Neo High Efficiency 550watt model though, and so far it's been great. I don't have a real GPU, but I have already put a hard 24/7 full load on it and it is holding up great. Rails are very close to official rated specs.

Unless you have SLi/Crossfire I don't think there is much of a difference between thos two PSU.

Bio-Hazard
08-16-2006, 06:00 AM
To be 100% honest, I don't even think SLi or CrossFire wiil have any sort of negitive impact on the XClio, it's also SLi approved and a 50w differance in load is not enough to even mention. .................;)
While running my system with all the fans and water cooling at a OC of 300x10 or 275x11 at 1.7v the Xclio kept all the rails over spec while the OCZ let the 3.3 rail drop a bit below, it was still well within spec, but it just moved a bit more, maybe 0.02-0.04 was about the largest drop.

I have an Ultrapower AT-T460AP 460W PSU in my main rig. It's basically a relabeled FSP, so it performs quite well. Despite the completely bogus review at Tom's Hardware (they tested an early non-retail version), it's a reliable little fellow.
I'm planning to get a 420W Enermax Noisetaker for my future C2D setup, that's probably still the best buy below 100$.
