All that I have been reading about on the upcoming game Guild Wars really makes it look very intruiging!
Why am I so interested in this game? Well...it is skill based, and not time-based...that is, you don't have to spend weeks and weeks leveling up a character to get up to the same level as everyone else...it is based on skill and teamwork.
Also, there is no monthly fee...you buy the game, and you can play it.
This weekend they are having a 3 day beta test to show off the game, and I intend fully to play.
Lets see if a few of us can play this weekend...if we like it enough, maybe we could start a Bjorn3d guild :).

Sounds like it could be fun. I'll download the client tonight in preparation for some testing Friday night. May even play a little Saturday and/or Sunday night.

I'm good to go. Will probably be on Fri and Sunday. Anyone else gonna try it out this weekend?

Yeah I can't wait for WoW! But it's nice when other game companies help you pass the time

Just noticed that GameSpy has a Hands-On preview. A good read to help you decide which class you want to start out as so you don't waste any precious playing time this weekend!
Check it out here: http://pc.gamespy.com/pc/guild-wars/561076p1.html

Well it looks like they've started early! You can actually create an account and character. Just waiting for the content to download. So slow!

Playing it now. Prepare for a LOT OF DL'ING. apparently, you DL the client, then DL the front end, then DL the tutorial, then DL the next zone, which is what I've queued up to do. Only gives you the number of files remaning, not the actual MB or KB remaining. Servers aren't that fast either.
Graphics look good. Gameplay so far is very simple. They start you out at level 15 with a few skills and equipment, so you can jump right in and start killing stuff.
Will know more once the next zone is loaded up.

I've created my account and character. Got to the next download screen and it is sitting there at 100% downloaded with "Loading" in the left but not doing a damn thing. Definitely shows it's beta.
Just got an error. Now I have to go through that download again!!! I hope it goes better than this once they get closer to release.

Someone create the Bjorn3D guild so it is ready for us, unless it is already created, of course.

Starfury, you mentioned a tutorial. I never saw it/couldn't find it...how do you get it??? I got an error as I mentioned above, it said try again in a few minutes, I did and it took me to Lion's Gate. Any ideas???
If this is how this game is going to be, I will most likely not get involved with it.

I've been playing it for a little while today with my brother. I'm lvl 16 already.
This game rocks! It feels more like NWN than a MMORPG! I love how it is put together!
And the graphics are gorgeous as well...lots of shader effects!

Apparently the error I mentioned above had to deal with the tutorial and that was why I didn't get to do it. I found this out by creating a new character and starting over.
If anyone sees Carrik Von Ike (Necromancer/Elementalist), that is me. Give me a holler and identify yourself from this site. However, I'm done for the night, so it will have to wait until tomorrow night.

Meh, its a MMO-NeverWinterNights. Ooooh, yay. Been there, done that, didn't have to pay $15 a month to play it. So far character development just isn't that great, combat boils down to who can strafe/click the fastest, and you pretty much have to either have a human or NPC party to survive the so-far linear storyline. This one is getting uninstalled.

that's the whole thing, there is no monthly fee for this game :)

Well this is definitely not a WoW-class game. But a nice diversion none the less.
Anybody have problems with the sound cutting out completely?

Didn't have any problems with the sound, but I wasn't in it for very long; maybe an hour once I started the new character.
The game kind of reminds me of the latest Final Fantasy on the PS2 (can't remember the number since it is my brother's). Those are not games that I really enjoy playing. I do like D&D and NWN, as some of you may have gathered from other threads, but to me this doesn't feel anything like NWN. I am willing to give it a try, but I have my doubts that I will find this anything more than an easily updated MMORPG styled after Final Fantasy.

I found it alot of fun, it sorta reminds me of NWN or Dungeon Siege in the group-based gameplay (and how you have the entire play maps to yourself without lots of annoying people bugging you). The story is linear..but weren't the other stories somewhat linear as well?
My brother and I found an alternate route to finish one part of the first mission...my guess is that many of the mission maps will have alternate routes, as their maps are huge!

made a guild...oh, and Ghidora, you've been invited :).
Crappy thing is that the darn game doesn't support numbers in names...so I designed a guild cloak thing that has the site colors and a paw with a slash mark. The name of the guild is "Bjorn Legion".

Sweet. I'll join it later tonight around 9pm or so. Can't stay up too late, though, have to get up tomorrow and go do some ATVing with some friends.

Didn't get to play last night, or much of the other 2 nights. How did it go?

I played it for awhile...got my char almost up to lvl 18. I liked it alot, I like how it promoted teamwork and the way it felt like a dungeon crawler. definitely far better than the boring "kill the same monster over and over again" formula that has dominated MMORPGs.

man, I just checked the graphic on the demo CD that's included in my school newspaper. It's amazing. I have never heard of this game, now after seeing the demo, I think I wll go out and find it.
BTW, is it a fun game as it looks?

I played two the the Beta weekend events now and Preordered the game so it will keep my name for when this thing goes live.
For me this has to be one of the funnest games I have played in a long time. Like Diablo2 in full 3d!!! 8)

Its a good game but it can be difficult to find a good group of willing players for cooperative missions. I highly recommend this game to anyone.

I've been seriously addicted to WoW for the last year, but the grind and queues have been getting to me so I've decided to take a break. I bought Guild Wars to hold me over for awhile. It's a nice game - good graphics and interesting missions, but definitely not as polished or as addictive as WoW.
I really liked the transition from the starting area (pre-searing) to the real game (post-searing) - great way to keep the high levels away from the newbies, and I was impressed they did it as part of the main plot.
