I thought dysons were just like any other vacuum until i got my own. But first let me just say i am 3/4 mexican if your thought process is politically incorrect then it should answer any questions that would have came up correctly. Now to the story, I saw a neighbor tossing out there old dyson 07 so i told them if i could have it. They said, sure but it doesn't work it no longer sucks, theres goes the "it never loses suction", no problem if i can't get it going you'll see me tossing it out a week from now, i said. So i took the sucker apart and saw the windtunnel thingy was a bit clogged up with what looked like dust but wehnt to wipe it off and was actually pretty hard but got it off without to much trouble. Took more of it apart and cleaned the foam filter and blew out the hepa filter. Stuck it back together and the sucker works like a champ now and i got me a free vacuum  Now if only my kirby were that easy to service.

I am not sure if its in my head or if the vacuum really is doing its job but the air just feels cleaner and my chronic allergies have cleared up now i dont have 24/7 plugged nose.

My mom got a Dyson when they first came out and they pick up everything. I'd get one if they weren't so expensive, free is always a good price that's how I got my computer case.

Ya you can't beat free. When i first started hearing about them and there features i just thought to myself its just a gimmick. I was thinking of selling the dyson when i first got it but when i started using it i fell in love with the thing and i actually can easily service it myself unlike the kirby i just take it in for someone to fix it but now i think i am going to sell the kirby.

you should. kirby's are over-rated peices of junk. there are many cheaper vacs that will do a better job. as for the dyson. if it has a hepa filter then it is already ahead of the kirby in not throwing dust back in the air (which all non hepa vacs do). and what the heck does your ethinic background have to do with the story???? I pic up stuff people are going to toss all the time, and i'm a mixed bag of european descent. heck, i once furnished an entire house with stuff from the bulk pick up piles around town. pretty nice stuff too.

Even though we want a Dyson bad I've never used a better vac than a Kirby honestly. The one that my parents had was old as **** and never let us down for years.

I have an older dyson the purple animal one(not the ball thingy) but I have to say "it still really sucks!" I mean that in a good way. I have had Dirt Devils, Kirby, Hoover, and some others. Dyson is the best so far. Just wish it would do the floors for me.

animal too, It to is the purple with the ball thingy. Did they make one w/out the ball? Also A couple of years after we purchased it and me not cleaning the hair out of the brush ( we have 2 4 legged critters and 1 is a super heavy shedder ) it burned something up inside the ball, It was still under their 5 year warranty so we called customer service they said to bring just the vac no attachments or handle to the nearest UPS store which we did ( UPS boxed it ) @ Dysons exspence of $54, About 15 days later we had brand new ball. heck it still had our canister & handle. Hope i am not out of line jumping in here.

2 thumbs up for the Dyson. I grew up with 2 Kirby's that will probably outlive me. My wife and I had a Kirby the first 14 years of our marriage, but I bought her a Dyson 14 Animal about 6 years ago and we quickly got rid of the Kirby. Even though it is all plastic I have not seen a better vacuum. If it goes out tomorrow it will be replaced with another.

I been actually looking in those dyson vacuums myself, but I stopped suddenly when I seen the price tag they had on it at a local wall world. I can be the best thing there is on the planet but with a 500+ price tag it can sit right where it is at, i do not need that bad. I heard a few great stories of it too of those few who do have one and those people absolutely love it.

Dyson owner here as well, and its the best vacuum IMO. The price might be high but you get what you pay for. My parents and my brother both had paid a ton of money for a Rainbow that have been replaced by Dysons now. The Kirby's may last forever but the Dyson is superior IMO. We have had ours for about 4 years now and it works just as great as the first day. ;)

Rainbows were originaly designed to be air filters. when they failed horribly at that job they were re-purposed as vacuums. any one using them will find that they spend far to much time dusting by hand, or have a layer of dust all over everything.
Dyson is by far the best on the market and if i could afford one i would get one.\
And oh yeah, I know all this because i once (for a very short time) sold TRI-Stars door to door. if any one tries to get you to let them demo one. go ahead and watch the demo if you want to be entertained for a coule hrs, but DO NOT buy one of the these over priced gadgets. the whole company is a scam. they make promises they don't keep, and the unit is worth 1/3 of what they want for it at best. I've heard of people winding up payin as much as $3900+ after finance charges(21%) and all.

the rainbow is a crazy vacuum using water?
but way too expensive

borschtBomber[SS]
06-15-2011, 10:37 PM
Yep, that is the one. I mean it does pick up well...but its rather bulky and a pain in the arse if you ask me.

James86

wow just searching prices on the rainbow they range anywhere from 1400 to 2400 jeez that's way too expensive

06-16-2011, 12:10 PM
For 1400.00 it better do laundry by itself too. I thought the Dyson was a little pricey. Jeeezzz

borschtBomber[SS]
06-16-2011, 02:18 PM
Thats the thing, the Dyson looks even better when you compare it to the prices of some of the 'high end' vacuums.

You know my wife's friend was going to garage sales and saw a person putting out a basically brand new Dyson DC07...they upgraded to the Animal and they sold that one to her for $40. LOL she already had one but said the deal was too good to pass up.

Blacksmith1
06-17-2011, 07:51 PM
Lay it out very carfully so you can put it back together. as for cleaning it, i would use soap and water, or isopropyl alcohol depending on what you are cleaning.

James86
06-17-2011, 08:31 PM
and make sure you remember where each part goes back
I remember when I was cleaning my vac out and just placed all the screws in a pile and mixed em all up Not good

I am good with putting the pieces back. I thin k I will just wash it With RO/DI water that stuff cleans everything no cleaners needed.

been out of the aquarium hobby a long time. what is this stuff of which you speak?

Joshua_Mahr
06-18-2011, 04:34 PM
RO Reverse Osmosis DI De-Ionization

It produces water that has about 0.1 - 1.5ppm total desolved solids. Basically pure water. It is all I use to clean everything on my vehicle. It pulls dirt off everything. It just disolves what it touches. I use it on dash seats carpets. The only non water thing I use is wax and bleachwhite for tires.

Ahh ok. I just bought an RO/DI unit a few months back and I'm putting together a 75g tank to do a mixed reef. Its like a money pit, just don't tell my wife lol

I prefer fresh, it's less expensive when something goes horribly wrong...

borschtBomber[SS]
06-19-2011, 02:12 AM
haha, I have had fresh for about 5 years now..kind of bored with the fish and selection. Was given a 35g salt tank with just a couple fish and now it is morphing into the 75g I am building now. Yes, the money is adding up but it's gonna be rewarding in the end.

My current tank is a 10 gallon populated by fish from the canal behind my APT courtesy of my 5 and 6 yr olds with a couple of buckets. and one betta, much worse for the wear now...

James86

at this one house I service it has a 200 gallon salt water tank with all these exotic fish in em. I usually get to talk to the aquarium guy and he was telling me the setup was in the 10k range. Damn rich people
