Now we can finally do all the things we want to do while driving, like web browsing and sleeping.

I seen this on the news a few days ago. Novel idea, if EVERYONE used this. However, human intuition always wins out when driving. The car won't be able to see the pileup or stalled traffic around the corner on the interstate. Lets see how fast autopilot will decelerate you from 60 to 0.

Mercedes has a system already in thier cars, and Volvo I believe, that will hit the brakes faster than, and as hard as, you in emergency situations. whether or not it's works 100% of the time remains to be seen. I don't trust any computer controlled device to function when it absolutely needs to due to having built and repaired PC's for so long.

I dont trust half of the human drivers that need to apply the brakes, at least if a computer screws up it has a reason.

Garbage in, garbage out.

I think it is a wonderful saftey Idea. MB's system works really well now. Also Toyota's Radar Cruise control has worked very well for a few years now. I would have to guess that a computer can drive better than 70% of the people on the road today. As long as the car dosent use a Microsoft OS. All the cars would be on the side of the road waiting for a reboot!

So, when the on-board computer crashes, it really crashes. That's delicious.

Could this be the beginnings of skynet?

I think it has been aware since August 29th, 1997. :-)
