AMD killing off AM3 processors

Ok, so their moving them to End of Life, same difference right? The X6 line of Phenom II AM3 processors are expected to be no more as of the fourth quarter 2011. one year for the flagship 1100t is a short life for what is their finest chip to date (in this writers opinion) Between now and the first quarter of 2012 the rest of the AMD Athhttp://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/NewsAtBjorn3dcom/~4/KQyMlKXifwk

Hell I still have the AM2+ processor/board. No way I can afford to u[date to the latest and greatest as a college boy.

the new board will run the am2 and up ( I belive) so if you get the board first you should be good to go.

I'm in the same boat as you I have an old AM2+ board but with an AM3 proc I want to win this months folding contest so bad

your am3 will work in an am3+ boaed so there is your upgrade path. board, then cpu. Me I want to get an x6 before they get too hard to find. then who nows.

Ya if I win this month I can just drop the CPU right in and go I just need to get some DDR3 tho cuz right now I'm running DDR2 but that's ok cuz ram is so cheap now.
and why would ya want an X6 when the bulldozer 8 core is coming out soon. I guess if ya had a AM2+ board then you could just drop it right in

that and i can get one alot cheaper than a bulldozer. with my setup that would remove the need to run process lasso to keep my GPU points up. I have to force affinity on each clent to a different core or 2 of them try to share core 3 (0-3 are the way they list) if i don't 2 of my clents fight each other just enough to lose points noticably.

you might be able to find some 1100T's for a good price when people upgrade to bulldozer
