I have a question. Where does that fuzzy part in the second pic go? 'Cause I have four of those here and I can't seem to figure out how to fit them in a system.

Some mining. More like a lot of mining. I sadly don't have any numbers here at my desk but I will post them later for the h100 on the 2600k at 5.2+ (Like I said love testing stuff just not a good review writer.)

Black: The fuzzy thing is my automated case duster. Put the fuzz ball in and shake the case a bit a wallaahaa!!!

What are the bitcoins selling for and how fast are you mining them?
I was looking into mining but it seemed like the time to get in was at the beginning of June

Currently I am mining at 4.8GHash/s. That's a pretty good number. Makes me about 200-380.00 a week depending on how the luck is going. I had one day that was a 150.00 so far the best day yet. Anyone that wants to mine I will help them out. Cause unfortunately most people don't want to help because the more people the less coins for others. But I don't care I do it for the fun and free money!

Can you actually make any real money with it? I had a quick read on it a while ago, and from what I understood it's more like hoping you'll get something for it one day?

No no no. Real Money.. If you hold on to them it's even better but I have been selling of to repay all the computers I added to the farm. I have cashed out over 1500.00 so far. It's just like the stock market but your making the stock yourself.

If that's the case then I'd like to try some mining myself then...

that's some pretty good temps there
and is the 5830 the best card to mine with and what program are you using to mine?

Just like how Nvidia based cards rule when it comes to folding, AMD cards rule bitcoin mining.

IMHO the HD5830 has the best value for bitcoin mining.

I picked up 3 of each 5850 and 5830 both saphire extremes. 5850 139.00 423Mhash/s 5830 129.00 369Mhash/s

But thats just my experience.

HEy its a start. What pool you on?

James86
08-10-2011, 10:36 PM
right now I'm in the bitclockers mining pool gonna see how it goes for a while
Should I be in a pool and if so does the size of the pool matter? So many questions

Joshua_Mahr
08-10-2011, 10:42 PM
Yes you should be in a pool. Otherwise you could go for a year without finding a block. The size only matters on how fast you get your money. But with a bigger pool you get less but more often. Small pool more money less often. I currently use BTCGuild. I donate so if the pool gets an invalid block I still get paid for it. Please ask all the question u want.

Interesting stuff. I think I'll take a crash course on the subject. I'd welcome you assistance if I end up giving it a go. As a first question, are there any noobish things (stumbling blocks for example) to avoid that you could comment on?

Thanks

[H] has an article on Bitcoin mining where they compare different setups: http://www.hardocp.com/article/2011/07/13/bitcoin_mining_gpu_performance_comparison/

Well I guess doing this would be out of the question for me considering I have 2 power hogging slow Nvidia GPUs lol. I don't understand how you can buy parts with this either.....

While there are companies out there that you can send your Bitcoins to for computer parts. I prefer just to cash in what I need for hard money then buy what I want.

Bloke there are not really any hurdles you just have to get set up. Let me know if you need help with that.

James good job on the BTC.

James good job on the BTC.Yea I was thinking about trading one of my 465's for a 6870 but I have no idea if the outcome would be worth it over power usage and SLI loss.

Looked into the bitcoin system. Heard about it awhile back as the internet currency, but hasn't really caught on with any retailers that I seen. As far as the mining goes, I ran it overnight. Was getting 48/mhash when i increased my memory clocks on my 460. Decided I would do better with folding than mining with my build Would take me months or years to get any decent money return back and i don't have the funds to put up for ATI cards or any mining farms.

I actually found a website that lists all of the cards mining supports, plus the average output and how much return you would get with each card. Found the link in the Bitcoin forums. If I stumble across it again I will link it.

-EDIT-

I did not find the site I found yesterday, but here ( http://www.pcper.com/reviews/Graphics-Cards/Bitcoin-Currency-and-GPU-Mining-Performance-Comparison/Dollars-Day-and-your-P (http://www.pcper.com/reviews/Graphics-Cards/Bitcoin-Currency-and-GPU-Mining-Performance-Comparison/Dollars-Day-and-your-P) ) is one that gives you an idea of the returns on each card. I believe the exchange rate is lower now too so keep that in mind. The bitcoin wiki https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Mining_hardware_comparison gives you a more detailed picture of output and how much power is being used by each card.

Yea I already Googled it and read his link. That's why I decided this isn't for me because I have an i5 and 2 465's. It would be a total loss due to electric costs.

Saryn

Unless you're adding farms or a lot of extra equipment, it would be equivalent to folding electric costs. But yeah, unless you trade those nvidias for ati's and break even on that, the return wouldn't justify the expense now.
