Many users put their stock in well known PSU's from brands like Thermaltake or Cooler Master. Are these products better than more obscure brands like Rosewill? Today we take a look at the Rosewill Lightning 1300W PSU to test this.http://feeds.feedburner.com/~ff/Reviews_at_Bjorn3D?d=yIl2AUoC8zA (http://feeds.feedburner.com/~ff/Reviews_at_Bjorn3D?a=szPXsmywM9c:zU421zJuB_U:yIl2A UoC8zA) http://feeds.feedburner.com/~ff/Reviews_at_Bjorn3D?i=szPXsmywM9c:zU421zJuB_U:V_sGL iPBpWU (http://feeds.feedburner.com/~ff/Reviews_at_Bjorn3D?a=szPXsmywM9c:zU421zJuB_U:V_sGL iPBpWU) http://feeds.feedburner.com/~ff/Reviews_at_Bjorn3D?d=qj6IDK7rITs (http://feeds.feedburner.com/~ff/Reviews_at_Bjorn3D?a=szPXsmywM9c:zU421zJuB_U:qj6ID K7rITs) http://feeds.feedburner.com/~ff/Reviews_at_Bjorn3D?i=szPXsmywM9c:zU421zJuB_U:gIN9v FwOqvQ (http://feeds.feedburner.com/~ff/Reviews_at_Bjorn3D?a=szPXsmywM9c:zU421zJuB_U:gIN9v FwOqvQ)

Good Review! I did not expect a Rosewill product to as well as it did. Like the review said it should have had 2 more pci-e power cables available. Still way to go Newegg oops I mean Rosewill.

Yep, to be honest I wasn't expecting much from the PSU as well, but I was surprised how well it did. It is not cheap though!

Do you know what company actually makes it?

I've heard that Super Flower has the same internals for one of their PSUs, though I don't know either which manufacturer makes it for them as well.

Yea I found the review. Super Flower like you said. I have never used a power supply from them. They any good?

I haven't tested their power supplies yet, but if one of their PSUs run on the same components as the Rosewill Lightning-1300 then it has to be pretty good. The Rosewill did really well compared to my expectations.

What I think is very nice is the ability to connect needed wiring rather than having unused wiring hanging around the case like I do now. I am so in need of updated equipment!

Even nicer option is the Seasonic X-Series power supplies which come in a 100% modular form.

I'm still slightly hesitant about using "off-brand" PSUs even though some of those are now fairly reputable. I don't think I'll ever buy a 850w+ PSU from an off-brand but maybe I'll try a Rosewill on my budget builds and see how it does. Might as well get some mileage out of the voltmeter.

dacrazydude, I understand your thinking though you have to remember if you are building a budget system you will probably also be going with a budget PSU, so not sure how budget Rosewill PSUs would do unless you are going for the lightning-800.
