A good friend of mine has a gigbyte/AMD phenom based system with a gtx295. several sata drives. pretty nice setup a couple years old. it doesn't want to shutdown when told to. puts everything away and right when it should shut off it hangs. OS is win7. anyone ever get this? got any ideas where to start looking? it's not a virus. it did this after a clean load on a single drive that had been wiped and had the partion cracked.

I'm assuming windows 7 has an even log also. Maybe check that to see what is going on?

Sounds like a program is hanging it up.

Go to processes in the task manager and see whats still running. Kill stuff till it shuts down.

Sounds like a program is hanging it up.
Also, does it say anything about "Forcing a Shutdown"?

I don't think so. he said it was doing it's thing and then just sat there. I haven't had a chance to talk to him yet so I'll ask when I do.

Ok, we wen't thru the logs and couldn't find anything in his that didn't have a match in mine. Also he said that if he boots to safe mode it will shut down. if he boots normaly it shuts off everything the HDD light stops and then it just sits there with the screen saying windows is shutting down and the Aero circle spinning.

Did it have Win 7 on it before? Remember win7 writes to your BIOS also. Bring it to me I fix.
I lift things up, and put them down!
Love that commercial.
