I used Photoshop. Lots of layer work, cloning, color work, etc. Not easy.

Would a 12.1 MP camera take a good enough pic?

Yes...but it kinda needs to have an animated look like mine above. If you slap animated looking stuff on an outdoors real looking shot it won't look right. Keep that in mind and attach a small image that you want to use. I will look at it and let you know if it will work before we start sending full res images to each other.
