Official Folding@Home for Stephanie May Contest, Win a GTX680 Signed by Jensen Huang

Thats right this month we are having a Folding@Home Contest in the name of my daughter who has cancer. The winner will get a GTX680 signed by NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang.

The contest is pretty simple and here are the rules.

1. Must Fold@Home for Bjorn3D's team 41608 in the month of May.
2. Must Join the Bjorn3D forums and post in this thread with your Folding@Home name for the contest.
3. Must have a USA Shipping Address
4. Must be in the top 10 of the site Folders at the end of the month. Winner will be drawn out of hat of those 10 Folders. You can monitor your status on the team at this URL: http://folding.extremeoverclocking.com/team_summary.php?s=&t=41608

Do not worry about Prod_Eng_Tesla-Stephanie. That is our Tesla Server and he does not compete in contest.

I've been in the top ten for most of the non-competition months, but I'm sure I'll be pushed out this month. Hmmm, just checked now and saw that I have a very low score this week. Maybe a reboot is in order.

Quick question about the contest Scott said top ten folders are entered but Tesla doesn't count. So does this mean there is a 1 in 9 shot or will the top 11 spots be used and just Tesla not included?

What always bugs me about this kind of folding competition is that it rewards hardware to people who already have very good hardware.

Yeah I cant afford the high end cards and cpu's, but I'll work with what I do have and hope for the best!

Start a thread in the Distributive Computing (http://www.bjorn3d.com/forum/forumdisplay.php/70-Distributive-Computing) forum, and we'll see if we can fix that. list full system specs, what you are using to setup your folding, any errors reported, etc.

Mine was failing them left and right too and I swapped it out with my 470 GTX and haven't had any problems since.

I just returned from the GTC Conference in San Jose, CA. I am also an NVidia Registered Developer. While at the event, I received a GTX 480 and put it into my 980X 6 Core/12 thread system with a GTX 470. Now folding using an SMP12/480/470 configuration.

GTC was amazing. Lots of new technology in the new 6xx series and programming these beasts will be very productive. My current system folds when not being used as a development system. When these become more available and the drivers work better, they should be very productive at folding.

The 480 seems to be working at about 20500 PPD / 205 watts while the 470 loafs along with about 10200 PPD and 140 watts. The computer room gets quite warm.

It's crazy hot out today. Which forced me to shut down my folding since its 90 F outside and even warmer in my room x.x. I'll resume folding once it cools back down.

Same here, I live in NY haha. Holy crap it was hot here too my CPU usually 65c now its 73c....

Finally turned my AC on here. Had an extra slot cooler next to my GPU, but removed it. Think it was shorting out. PC kept failing to power up.Now GPU runs about 5C cooler at full load while folding. Strange.

The 470 and the 980x cpu are water cooled, while the No-brand GTX480 I received at NVidia's GTC Conference is air cooled. The 480 operates at 100% fan with temps in the mid 80's C!

Investigating building a 4 processor/ 48 core system for folding and High Performance Computing research. Cost will probably get between $3K to $4K. Not sure what the PPD on that box would be like, but it would be interesting!

The swamp evaporation cooler is staying very busy here flushing out the heat. I hope the 4 processor / 48 core system with 4x115 watt processors does not do more damage to the cooling and power aspects of living here and Folding. Add in a GPU and this room will be toasty! Great in the winter, but May to September??????

I belive that server is used as a test bed. which is why it goes offline sometimes. in house useage. when they arer't using it it folds fo us. My guess is they did an upgrade to newer tesla cards or the ne WU for the old cards are worth more PPD.

Id keep folding but people are sandbaging as well as my temps here are Rediculus anyways now, 90c a day here... So about 25c higher temps on CPU ect. then they should be, we got hit with a massive heatwave here...

Interesting to see newegg now has some GTX580's for less than 400.00. They are great Folding@Home cards.

GTX570's are now less than 280.00 WOW.

After what I saw at the NVIDIA GTC conference, I want to see how the GTX 680's and 690's will fold. The folding programs do not work well with the advanced drivers yet, but the 580 is 512 cores at around 800Mhz. The GTX 680's run with 1536 cores at 1008 MHz. The 690 is two 680's with 98% throughput of two SLI'd 680's. The 600 series also use less power and generate less heat. Huge internal improvements in how the chips communicate and process data. Double precision is held back because these could give the $2500 TESLA cards a run for the win.

Then again at $1000 or so for a GTX 690, and no water cooling yet, guess I will wait a while for someone else to update the drivers and folding engines to take advantage of the processing power. No idea on the PPD for these boards.

I want to appologize for the misbehavior of my graphics card. It seems that while I was away at work my 8800 GTS decided to act up. It spit out 266 Failed WUs, from what I can tell from the latest update, before I could get home and shut it down. I'm confused how it managed to go over 10 Failed WUs without timing out. It was only failing WUs every once in a while and I thought I fixed it. I think its finally time to retire my 8800 :(
