I stopped folding and will shut down my PC when I'm not using it. Not only is it getting hot, but the electric company is giving a discount to people who use less electricity than previous years, so it's worth trying for that.

Anyone else taking a break from folding or considering it?

I need to cut back on heat producing Folding also. Summer is HOT here in my area. I will return here and there, but definitely in the cooler months.

Yeah, it gets HOT in the South. I stopped folding last summer also. I stopped GPU folding a few months ago, due to noise issues. As my GF 470 has aged, it's gotten much noisier. I've blown out the dust bunnies, etc, but it's still annoying loud when folding... so I stopped. The 600 series is not folding-friendly, so it looks like I'm waiting for a 700 series card.

680 card actually kicks ass folding once they get a client for it. Some testing that has been done with non released beta client shows it to be a beast

From what I saw at Nvidia's GTC conference, it should be capable of 50K PPD or so. The 690 is 98% of two 680's but using the power of a single 680. These are using the GK104 chips, similar to the 560's. I hope we see the full featured GK110 or GK114 chips soon, as these have much more capable GPU systems built in.

My F@H has been cut by 50%. Thinking October or November before I kick them all back on. When everything is running, I feel like Clark W. Griswald.
