Advice & Suggestions on first build under $3k budget

This is my first build from scratch my gaming orientation leans on rpgs, mmos, action-adventure and rts for the most part and less so for fps and racing games.

System Usage from Most to Least Important:
Extensive gaming and production/rendering in autodesk and other 3D/CG art software. i will probably be running quite a few applications at the same time including the art applications and/or games with the browser and some extra editing tools and would like for it to run silky smooth in the process

Not planning on getting a custom liquid cooling system just yet

Really looking for some of the top and latest support with longevity, durability and silence

the rig would be placed in the basement which is usually around 20C, during the humid summer it should be closer to 30C room temp but we almost always AC then. the only thing about the basement i am worried about is if airflow wouldn't be good enough for the rig

would a heatsink fan suffice for now? if i ever choose to SLI would liquid cooling be needed then?

I like (read jealous) everything you have listed with only a few exceptions:
1. PSU: You may not need it now, but go a bit higher to maybe 850 to 1000
2. Optical Drive: Go with a BR writer. You can’t believe the number of 15 to 20 GB backups I make with mine.
3. Case: $20 cheaper with free shipping at Amazon.
As for liquid; like you, my system sits in my basement. I like the steady movement of air around my components to help with potential humidity build up.

One other related point. I use this case on a system at work: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119225 for the fact that the room is only cooled to 22 C during the summer and there is NO moisture control. Air flow is great.

Also, I did not check, but I am assuming all of your parts are on the QVL for the MOBO/

i have a dehumidifier if that helps and i checked out the dolby digital 7.1 ss on youtube and makes a huge difference in gaming, at least for me

I agree on the PSU. If you want to SLI with another 680 you will need more than 750w for sure. \
Also, unless you have ridiculously high quality studio monitors or cans then a sound card really is of no use. I stopped using my X-Fi in favor of the onboard sound just to let go of one more driver to install and besides a few things like the Crystalizer there really was hardly a difference.
If you don't plan on overclocking then an aftermarket cooler really isn't needed. Even if the basement has little airflow as long as it is sufficiently cooled in some fashion then your PC will be fine. The case you chose has plenty of airflow to keep things cool.
