We have had an infestation at work. We are dealing with it and it will take time. The immediate problem is this: To help cool the server, the sides are off and a small fan is blowing into it. In my opinion, prime target. The non-tech guys say I am nuts.

Anyone have any experiences with rodents and electronics?

if they think ther eis something to eat in there or like how warm it is they will go in. I have had rodents chew wires in the past. If you have said it could be a problem and everyone wants to say you are nuts... leave it alone. if the mice mess up the server, you get to say "I tried to tell you'. if there is no one near the server most of the time it becomes a good spot to set up a nest, unless it's to hot. Thinking about it I have found insect problems in PC's but the only system I ever found rodent evidence in had been stored with the side off. it may be safe. who knows?

Going to put the sides on Saturday night. The "I tried to tell you" would be lost on my co-workers. They would just shrug and go on about their daily business.

One of my exs left the computer I built for her on the floor with the side panels off. She had to clear the rat poop constantly. Mind you, she had birds in her room, but my dad also used to have the same problem in the winter.

Rodents will go anywhere that they feel safe. I've found them in BBQ islands, under car hoods, and under dog houses. And the reason rodents chew on everything is because their teeth are constantly growing and need to chew on things to wear them down. Just set some snap traps with some peanut butter as bait and you'll catch em in no time.

To illustrate James's point about them feeling safe.
