So I recently got another 560ti and have a Sli question. I am running them on a Gigabyte X79-UD3 which has 4 pci express slots. I am currently using the top two. I was wondering if any of you knew if using the third slot would effect performance? :help:

Your board from top slot to bottom goes 16x 16x 8x 8x. However I do not think the Ti would use more than an 8x. IMO

X79 has 40 2.0 lanes.

X79 has 40 2.0 lanes.This. You're fine no matter what slot you put them in.

sweet thx for the responses the top one was getting hot quickYea I'm considering switching my cards around too. It will look goofy but it bugs me when my top 580 hits 98c.

So it looks like my MSI 560ti is running really hott!
I moved the gigabyte one down to the third slot and when I run Furmark the MSI one reaches 100c and throttles
I'm gonna take it out and look at the cooler for hair and maybe reapply TIM to the heatsink and see what that does

IMHO, keep your cards cool. Might not be the best way of doing things but I have, if possible, kept the slot or slots closest to the CPU clear when running SLI.

Here is a pic of the cards

Is the fan at 100% when it gets that hot? If not then you need to reconfigure the fan ramp.

yep I set the fans to run at 100% when it gets above 55c

yep I set the fans to run at 100% when it gets above 55cThen I would definitely take a look at the cooler and repaste it. My cards are only getting that hot because I have them overclocked like mad.

Just out of curiosity. Next time you have them both going full blast in the case. Load GPU-z and see what it says the 12V to the card is.

it's 1.025 to the Gigabyte one and 1.037 to the MSI one

Thats the GPU core voltage. What does it say your 12V input to card is?

Reapplied the TIM and temps are slightly better after 25 min of Furmark temps max out at 97

I guess I just have a hot GPU or bad heatpipes in the cooler

where do I get that?

Furmark over stresses your components more than games will. So if you hit 97c with that then in games you wont hit that high.

I haven't got any crashes yet so I'm not too worried just some high temps

GPU-z under sensors tab down where is says 12V

looks like there was a massive air pocket between your GPU and heatsink.

could be you just have a hot GPU like you said.

I don't seem to have that sensor
http://gpuz.techpowerup.com/13/02/24/cwa.png

And this screen shot is using kombustor to stress the GPU and it maxes at 76

I think it's for higher end cards. My 580s have the 12v measurement.

What is your PSU power rated at?

James86

I have the Rosewill Fortress 750W

I think it should be plenty of power

You would think, but I would check if you have a Kill A Watt meter. I'm pulling over 1000w at the wall with my machine.

James86

I'll have to get one of those

PP Mguire

They are like 30 bucks at Micro-Center and Newegg. Well worth it IMO. I thought SLI 580s would be ok on an 850w PSU as 3 280s were before but this unit gets rather hot when I play Crysis 3. I will admit, that is with both of them OCd and my 3960x at 4.6 but 1000w and lights flickering made me go whoa!

Reason I bring it up is because you might be capping the PSU even if they are only 560s.
