Does anyone still have REALLY old DOS games installed on their system? How about on floppies? I'm talking old, like Duke Nuke'm I or II, the original DOOM, or even OLDER?

I found my floppies that have Duke, Captain Comic, Scorched Earth, and others from years ago.

I took a quick look and Star Wars Rebel Assault popped up from 1993. I also have Windows 3.11 kickin around on floppy discs though it isn't a game but damn is it old.

I finally got rid of my Win 3.11 floppies. I had Qmodem laying around from my BBS days.

How about Atari stuff? I've got a windows version of Asteroids, Missile Command, Tempest, and Centepede!

Rebel Assault and Doom are some of the oldest pearls in my gaming collection, but Wolfenstein definitely wins the trophy.

This is going to make me look pretty old. I've got a breakout style DOS game called Popcorn, c 1979. Its only in four colors. The next in line must be BERZERK, c 1986, and its just in black and white!

This is in addition to the first Doom and Wolfenstein games, plus penty others.

I've also got two (2) original Atari consoles with a couple dozen games. :)

Anyone remember 5.25 floppies? I've got some brand new ones and the drives to read and write to them, plus a bunch of old programs on 5.25 floppies I haven't looked at in ages.

I think my oldest piece of hardware is a 5 MB hard drive that takes two 5.25 drive bays, and enough components to build an operational XT computer.

I've got Doom on multiple floppies, Wolfenstein too. That's as far back as I go for gaming. My oldest piece of hardware is a pre-Soundblaster external sound device bundled with Disney software. Ran off of batteries, worked when it wanted to, and sounded like crap. :)

Before Castle Wolfenstein 3D on the apple IIE there was the Oroginal Escape from Castle Wolfenstien! (http://www.abandonia.com/games/en/390/CastleWolfenstein.htm)

Don't forget Karatika!

All can be played on Emulators now.

I played Wumpus and Star Trek on MVS "big iron" machines in the early 80's. But since I don't own those machines I don't think they count for this thread. :)

How about a game from 1987? Or how about one I wrote in 1984? Is that old enough? (I'll let the links speak for themselves.)

http://www.the-underdogs.org/game.php?name=Seven+Spirits+of+Ra

Note that both games can be freely downloaded (at the bottom of each of the linked pages), at only 61 & 92 KB I promise they both are worth the download.

Here's an interview Rand & I did 15 YEARS after we first published ICON: http://www.mobygames.com/featured_article/feature,10/section,37/

More info: http://www.mobygames.com/game/icon-the-quest-for-the-ring & http://www.mobygames.com/game/dos/seven-spirits-of-ra

Details on the special graphics mode may be found here:

A little history on programming those old DOS games may be found in Life Before Demos (http://shop.allcommunity.com/books/books.cgi?catid=0.3.2157&cadurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.oldskool.org%2Fshrines%2Fl bd%2F). (FYI: I spent a LOT more time working on the sound and music than I did programming the special graphics mode.)

Here's something I'm almost to modist to post: http://atari5200.mobygames.com/developer/sheet/view/developerId,674/

Fair enough, though I had a DOS version kicking around somewhere. EGA TREK was a favorite of mine on my old 286 way back when.

Neal_White_III: What's the good word?

Writing games in the '80s? That's Awsome.

I have Bill Elliotts Nascar Challenge on 5.25 floppies in the basement somewhere. Don't know why I haven't had a drive in a long time for it.

Really? I didn't know that thses games were released also for Apple IIC. I thought it was only for the PC (or 'IBM-Compatible' back in the old days).

I think you are right zachig. I must have been thinking of the old Pentium 66 IO used to have and still sitting around collecting dust. I can't remember if it was Apple IIC or IBM this shows how long ago they were.

I think the oldest for me would have to be Heavy Gear(but the disk is so scratched it's worthless My dad had lots of DOS games, idk the dates. My dad also had Ultima and Kings Quest, my mom loved that one.

I do know that one of my first game was reader rabbit or something like that . It was fun.
