Windows XP Pro install stuck

I've been installing Windows for an hour now and it still says it has 33 minutes left but it's still responding (bar on bottom of screen and text) anyone know whats going on?

Is your HD and CDROM light doing anything? Has this ever happened before with your copy of XP?

Did you tell it to do a full format or a quick format? It is possible you have a bad sector that the full format should of blocked out as bad.

if you are not sur if it doing anything - eject the windows cd .
if it will ask for it back it is still alive.
do you have any special hardware connected?

Same problem here - Stuck on 25 mins for over an hour.

The 'What's new in XP' screen is updating every few minutes and the green progress bar in bottom right corner is moving, but nothing else happens. Ejecting CD makes no difference.

Any ideas how to get this sorted?

** Edit ** A reboot doesn't seem to do any harm - It automatically starts the installation again (39 mins to go..) Not sure at this stage whether it will stick on 25 mins again.

** Edit ** Yep, sticks again on 25 mins. Any ideas?

If the reboot doesn't help, do a complete reformat, that normally will take care of the problem. It's a lot more work than a upgrade, but a complete system reload does help performance a bit......... :lol:

I would definately do that if it was an option, unfortunately this a repair installation on a HDD full of existing data. Full format not an option at this stage..

Having said that, I've already spent 3 days messing with this and now Partition Magic 8 is coming up with 1516 improperly dismounted drive errors, so sod it - Complete reformat it is.

Might at least get a working PC back before the nights out. :)
