I'm very unimpressed with this Firefox. When I download .exe files it makes me save them instead of being able to run them.
It constantly give me a shockwave error and ask me to close the software.
It loads quicker than IE, but seems so buggy.
My friend told me how wonderful it was, but I think I'm about ready to uninstall it. Is this just happening to me or are others having trouble? If IE had the option to open pages in tabs instead of Windows, I don't think this program would have anything over IE.

I would have to agree that id IE had tabs I would use it instead of Firefox but currently like Firefox more and haven't used IE since I started to use IE which is probably around 1year.

Not sure why shockwave would be messing up on you, unless it's on a particular site. Might be something with that certain file. If you post a site or two where the issue is happening it would be easier to confirm about the shockwave issue.
To open a file you have to download it. Once it's downloaded just like open from the downloads window and it will run. Doing that will work for almost any file. Yes IE just lets you hit run, but it still has to download first.
Also, what version are you running? 1.5 or 1.0.7?

I believe IE automaticaly saves it to your temporary internet files and open it. I don't have to "CLEAN" up a mess with it.
I'm running 1.5.
This site was on of them that gave me the error, but not everytime I visited.
No biggie, just figured I'd see if anyone else is having a lot of trouble. If I had to compare to to an operating system it would remind me of Windows 95. Heck if it had been out at that time it would have been impressive.

I use Firefox exclusively. Loads faster and I feel more secure. I've never had any Macromedia issues (Flash or Shockwave), although a few versions of Acrobat ago it would freeze on me (not any more). I like all the plugins and skins, too. I also use Thunderbird as my mail client; I will never use OE again.

I'm with Bryan on this. I've not had any issues with Macromedia stuff or anything else for that matter.
I think it's like any other piece of software you install. Put it 10 identical machines and chances are at least one of them will not work properly. That seems to be the standard for Windows platforms these days. At least this has been my experience over the past 10 years.

Have you tried Opera already?
About a year ago, I've moved from IE to FIREFOX and I've been facing the same bugs, so nowadays I'm really considering to try out Opera, but havn't made my mind yet.

i agree with zachig about opera - you should give a try.
the speed is amazing in almost evry site compred to FF or IE.
also it is stable and can be configured very deeply.
FF is good and can use extensions which is very nice to have but somtimes cause trubles .
after almost 1 yr of using opera i stiil have some sites i use IE or FF,
for example my gmail is best loaded with FF.
but again opera is the best speed brewser currently

OK. I think I've made my mind. After reading carefully some more reviews, I've decided to give it a try. For the meantime, I'm going to use both FF and Opera at the same time, planning to work most of the timew on Opera. If everything will go smoothly, I'll gradually move to 100% usage of Opera. :D

I heard asbout Opera but I doubt I will try it as Firefox suit me just fine. I hate trying new apps. I am to lazy to install them.

Yeah, I really think that if Mozilla guys won't make drastic changes in FireFox, we gonna see more and more people abandoning FireFox and moving to Opera.

Can anyone post some details on the Opera program? IE: who made it, who distributes it, it is a free download/trial, etc.? I want to try a new browser, as I am getting fed up with IE and its constant crashing

It is TOTALLY FREE. You can read everything about it in their website at: http://www.opera.com/

You guys have to remember one thing though.
MOST web page and i should say ALL are made to work with IE.
So you have to tell yourself that a few page can look ugly or be messed up with Firefox and even Opera.

Thanks to zachig for the link! Between Opera and Firefox, the battle of my preferred web browser begins! :P
And that is a very good point, Schwarz! I mainly use Safari at work (we use Macs) and the odd website loads up incorrectly and/or with errors.... it's slightly annoying, but not world ending

The real difference between Firefox and Opera are really features wise.
If you want a simple browser go for Firefox if you want a browser full of features go with Opera.
Depending on what kind of user you are this will play a big role in your choice.
Opera comes with the google search bar, Opera mail kinda like outlook, a irc chat program and has Java included.
One interesting thing is the Kiosk mode.
Opera supports kiosk mode - a lock-down mode in which the browser can be used for unattended information stands in public environments wich is quite useless for home users...
But in my personnal opinion Opera has lots of features but are they really usefull...
Instead of having a browser with full of things that you will probably not use get firefox and download the plugings for what you really need.
One more thing is that there is a free version for Opera but there is also a version that is $29 USD that comes with
1 year premium support via e-mail that includes
installs and upgrades
migrate from another browser
configure and customize
resolve support issues.
I find this very deplorable when you have these guys at Mozilla
creating a browser that is free and can do as much or even more
via Plugins.
Why not support the free open source Firefox
Like I said though its really preference based.

Opera sounds good, but I dont' need all those extra bells & whistles. What I want is a fast & stable web browser, and methinks Firefox may just fit that bill nicely... I'll post my thoughts on it after I've had enough time with the prog
