I am driving my self crazy trying to figure out what the hell is going on with my sound card. If it is just my system or weather it's a common problem. It seems that every EAX game I play has this annoying cracking sound every time enter a space that has echos, and at times I encounter framerate drop offs when this occurs. I have done every thing I know how to do to correct the problem.

1. unistalled/reinstalled drivers/updated drivers
2. moved to another pci slot
3. increased/decreased pci latentcy (now at 64)
4. updated chipset drivers
5. disabled cmss

I'm at a loss as to what the reason is for the crackling noises. I know I could always disable EAX but what fun is that when you pay good money for a sound card.

Last thing I would try is this. Take the card out and use and pencil eraser to clean the contacts on the card that go into the PCI slot. Over time these can corod and cleaning the contacts canfix the problem.

It looks as if you've tried everything I can think of, happaflapp. Did you try Scott's advice? If so, how did it work out? I also have the Audigy 2 ZS, but have had no problems that resemble yours, or any problems for that matter...
