"It seems that NVIDIA and their OEMs are shipping GeForce 7800 GS cards to distribution centers around the globe. Some of the distributors are waiting for the official launch tomorrow, but others can’t contain themselves and have started distributing cards already. We have managed to find one distributor that is currently providing Leadtek GeForce 7800 GS cards to his customers, and a number of stores are stocking BFG cards as we speak."

And HERE (http://www.ngohq.com/home.php?page=Articles&go=read&arc_id=58) is a small preview.
OH, and I guess HERE (http://ckturbo128.proboards4.com/index.cgi?board=computerhardware&action=display&thread=1138544120) is the FIRST 7800GS review on the net (expect tons of reviews tomorrow  ).

With ATI making the move to PCI-E only nVidia is making a smart mov though using the 7800GS isn't the smartest it better than nothing.

cool but its still only 16 pipelines so those with agp need not fret although more likely than not their cpu will rediculously bottleneck the card :(

Older Boards?
AGP 8X is not that old.
I will buy a new graphics card within the next 6 months. this is finally looking decent!
I will finally get the best AGP 8X board out there.
If they dont make these latest boards in AGP that will be dissapointing, as there is no bottle neck in preformance from the AGP slot yet.
I thnk that they changed more for the power usage and to again cut people off and make them upgrade.
So they sell you a videocard that is AGP. It will be obsolete sooner then it's PCIE counterpart, they should be happy to do this.
I can't wait to get a new videocard.

Does anyone know if a PCI-E version of this card is planned? I'm wondering if it would come in at a better price/performance point than the 7800GT.

Even if there is a 7800GS it is a waste to buy one. It is more comparible with the X850XT. Better to spend the extra $50-100 and get a faster 7800GT.

An interesting thing people with older baords can do is this.
If you do not have the money already to buy a big bad PCI-e card you can get yourself a ASROCK 939 Dual SATA-2.
It supports AGP and PCI-e.
And its not like some other baords that has the AGP running on the PCI-e BUS its real native AGP.
And you can get this baord for pretty cheap.
It will also support the new AM2 processors through a daughter board you will be able to buy that sports the socket and 2 slots for DDR2.
You can get a baord like this for 70 bucks !
It also sports the Uli chipset that I really like.
Anyways if you want to know more about the board let me know.

But the ting that bugs me the most about that motherboard is the ASROCK part, in all the experiences I have had with ASROCK it has all been terrible terrible and yes TERRIBLE, that is my only main concern but if a higher quality company decided to make on similar and without ULI yeah its a good board

7800GS for $350 not too bad but then a 7800GT for $50-100 is a better choice.
