GIMP is an acronym for GNU Image Manipulation Program. It is a freely distributed piece of software suitable for such tasks as photo retouching, image composition and image authoring. Many people find it extremely useful in creating logos and other graphics for web pages (all of the graphics on this web page were created using GIMP). The GIMP has many of the tools and filters you would expect to find in similar commercial offerings, and some interesting extras as well.

I truly believe in open source stuff cuz it is truly better than most of the stuff you pay for and i think that its a great alternative for ppl who cant afford a $500+ program

I don't have much need for Photoshop or similar products, so I don't spend the money on them.
I have used gimp and found it to be fairly easy and it certainly does more than I need it to do.

I use GIMP all the time for appling water marks and whatnot for article pics and so on. I've been using it off and on for years. I find it a very useful program and is much easier to use than some of the high dollar ones out there.
This the first I have herd of this, I will have to give it a try.
It is quite a small program too.
Better the installing Photoshop just so I can edit a pic.
