Finlly!
i had so much trouble finding and connecting a floppy drive , because Vista can use USB drive as the place for additiona drivers
now i can really drop the floppy drive
:D
this info is from a friend of mine installing vista.
This is a historical moment!
This will be really fun, giving up that old and NOT durable device!
Well done, Vista!

Well that is good. The only thing I use the floppy for is BIOS updates and RAID drivers for OS install.

RAID is a pain in the a** with floppy.

I hope this no floppy feature is retained in the finial version of Vista. I've been reading on the MS beta site that it may be dropped in the finial version due to the extremely high number of extra supported devices that will have to be added to the installation process of the OS. I guess only time will tell.

finally MS has gotten the stupid floppy requirement out of Windows installation.
Well, Scott. I can actually use USB drives to update bios without any troubles. I think many of current new mobo can boot from floppy and update bios using the usb drives.

my big problem with BIOS is the fear that somthing may go wrong and you lose your baord or need to RMA it.
i don't understand why manufacturer don't first load the new BIOS to RAm and only after use a program to check if it is ok and only then burn it to flash

I think that's pretty much the way Abits windows flash program works, it checks to see if it's the correct bios for your board and then makes sure the b ios is intact and then it proceeds with the flashing. I'm not sure about any other companies due to the fact that I normally flash everything with a boot cd that emulates floppy A........

Meh, I did away with floppy ages ago. I keep a 2.88MB floppy image to do BIOS updates with on CD-R and just merge RAID drivers onto a custom XP disk. I have to admit, NLite has made this leaps easier than the old days of manually editing the .txt files ...
