Man, I hate being without a ride! My wife got her car into a bit of a fender-bender a few weeks ago and it's been in the shop since, and since she works I've been the one hoofing it everywhere.
It takes me 45 seconds to get from my house to school to drop the kids off, it takes over 4 1/2 minutes to walk it. :?
Sorry, just venting/working on starting some posts here....this forum gives away too many cool prizes not to bang out a hundred posts here a month! ;)

I'm in a similar situation. Wife has the car at work all day. I could walk to places but 1) it would not be too safe and 2) don't really need to.
I could use the friggin exercise though!

The exercise is good for me too, but my knee hurts after days like yesterday:
Walk my son to school at 8, walk home. Walk daughter to school at noon, walk home. Walk to school to teach in my daughter's kindergarten at 1, walk home at 2. Walk to school at 2:30 to pick the kids up, walk home with 'em.
I'm too fat and lazy for crap like that! :?
We still don't know when the car will be back either, they couldn't find new wheels for the front so they're going to try and repair the ones we have. :(
lmao. thats to funny.
We only insure our other truck during the summer.
So right now we only have the one, that means that I have to drive the Wife to work and pick her up when I need it. It is a real pain in the ass.
Worst part is is she likes going to the gym in the morning 5 days a week so I have to get up early and go to the gym with her. I hate mornings and I hate working out in the morning even more.
Theres my rant. :)

I can't remember ever being with a car except for when I was deploied somewhere like the first Gulf War. But there I had a 6.3 mil helicopter to fly around in (had to fix the damn thing to).
There was a period of time when I couldn't drive though, that was due to a fractured spine from a helicopter crash................. But not driving for 6 months didn't bother me at all, I was just happy that I could still walk after it was all said and done.

Yeah, we're going to buy another vehicle this summer for next winter and just let her car ride it out in the garage like we SHOULD have this winter....we're just kind of stupid.
But c'mon, if you had it wouldn't you want to drive it all the time?

(That's my Pathfinder behind it)
My wife is leaning towards picking up an old Jeep with a removable hardtop for the winter, she used to have one back in college and loved it.

Nice car and all, but I've got zero use for a car, now a 4x4 pick-up is another story.................. My current truck has just shy of 200 K on it and it's still going strong. A car out here where I live would just get distroied in a very short period of time.

Man, I thought I had it bad when I was without my car for 1 day while it was getting detailed. Had to drive the wife's little Lancer.
I was so happy to get the GTP back.
But c'mon, if you had it wouldn't you want to drive it all the time?
Yes I would love to drive one of those, they are quick!
I kinda have to keep mine put away, I miss driving it badly, *cry.
O well hopefully we end up moving to the Okanagen soon, more sun = more colours. lol.
This is my baby. She's a 99, and I think I hit 39,000 Km (about 24,000 miles) this summer. lol.

So let me get this right the wife crashed the 350Z? I don't want to sound like a chauvinistic man but a sane man would be crazy to let a woman drive that car. Chicks can stick with minivans and SUVs. 350Zs are sweet rides but give me a Mazda RX8 or Acura RSX Type-S or Celica but if I could import a car Nissan R34 for my and thx. If you are looking into another rear wheel drive car get a Honda S2000 you will ever be happy.

My wife crashed her Z, I'm just glad she lets me drive it!
Nah, we're not getting another rear-wheel drive. Either a 4x4 or something small & economical, I wanna see if I can find an old Cooper for cheap this summer.
Just something to get around in for the winter, the Z is just not designed for it. It handles snow/ice surprisingly better than you'd think thanks to all the computers controlling it's accelleration, but it's still just got too much horsepower for a light rear-wheel drive car in winter around here.
She didn't hit anyone, just going over a bridge she hit an ice patch while accellerating and the whole car spun out. Both front wheels & the front left suspension are getting replaced.
I gotta agree that I ain't got it nearly as bad as someone with a broken leg, I just like to whine....it's cathartic for me. ;)

Lol, my wife ran here car out of water (I'm thinking on purpose) 2 months ago and cracked the head. We went 1 week sharing a vehicle and that sucked. We went out the next weekend and she picked out her new car. She didnt' like driving my truck anyway. I'm going to buy a third car in case we ever have to take ours to the shop. I never want to only have to share a car again.
I gave my wifes old car away for 100 gallons of heating oil  I was joking with someone New Years Eve and told them they could drive it away that night if they could get me 100 gallons of oil. Damned if they didn't find someone willing to come out and bring it.

GRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!
I hate dealing with repair shops & insurance companies, I just hate it!!! Due to some weird screw-up the Z is in my name at the dealership & at the insurance company, so I get to deal with all the "fun" details. :?
Just found out yesterday that my wife talked to them and they're not replacing the frontwheels as originally planned, now they're planning to remove them and have them re-finished. (Blasted down and a new powder coat applied)
I'm not sure I'm comfortable with that. It could work, but it could also not....I told 'em about my reservations and we agreed to decide after it was all done if it was good enough or not.
<sigh>
They haven't even sent the wheels out to be done yet and it'll be two weeks tomorrow that it's been in the shop.
Replace.
If they are damaged. Balancing will be a nightmare.
You will get all that great uneven tire wear, the chrome (I assume you have chrome) can chip off.
Not to mention, after they spend the money on them to get em fixed, it will be that much harder to get insurance to replace them.
2 Weeks, tell them they could buy and install them today. :)
Just my thought's.
Right now I am dealing with a hit and run right now where the guy hit me on purpose and then took off (yes I was in the car, driving) and just denies that he was involved.
2 Insurance claims, 1 Police report, and all the other crap that goes along with it. Main insurance company says there is no claim. :)
Trust me we all get to go through the ringer sooner or later.
Its lots of fun I know.

Yeah, I just spent a few hours making some phone calls and it's looking betterer. The dealership sent me to the insurance company who sent me to the appraisor who sent me to an agent, and the appraisor originally wrote that we needed both front wheels replaced so I think it was just a case of me needing to let them know we wouldn't settle for "repaired".
I'm just waiting for a phone call now to confirm it all. I figure if it'll take a long time for the wheels I'll just ask them to repair everything else and put our old damaged ones on so we can use the car until the new wheels come. :)
Good luck with your hit-n-run. I'm actually feeling rather fortunate/lucky, our insurance company is being very nice about it and I'm not really encountering any hassles....it just takes a bit of time and patience to talk to all the right people. :?
In British Columbia Canada, where I live we have ICBC Insurance Corp. of B.C.
Government run and everyone must use that as there primary provider. There are raising rates this year after making a prophet of almost $400 Million last year. Monopoly Government company making big prophets, they gave bonuses to all there gaddamn staff last year because of that. No a rebates to safe drivers. Go figure.
They are for the most part interested in paying nothing to everyone (well they are in insurance company) but they have it set up in this round about way so that no one can get anything done without running the obstacle course There workers are lazy and almost all the ones I have dealt with suck.
Today after I am done with my letter and photos, my "package" goes off to an external review board. Of course I have to pay for this myself. If I win I get my money back.
This province should be called the Province of Enron! (Trust me I know, I have lived here my whole life.)

We have State Farm Insurance, and I rather like 'em. We've been using them for about 10 years and they've taken good care of us.
I called the shop and told them not to send the wheels and to expect a call from the insurance company. :)

I HATE THIS!!!!!
Just got off the phone with the nice lady at Nissan and she basically lied to me again and said she'd be calling to find out when the parts would get there and with luck they may be there within a week or two...but she'd have to call and check.
The exact same thing she told me Friday, exactly.
I'm gonna give her a couple of hours and then call back, this is getting to be a bit of ridiculous!
