Anyone have an opinion on the X-Connect 500 watt powers supplies.

I had one for 2 years and it ran great though alot of people have mixed feelings as some had them die on them within a few months while others had good experiences like me. If you plan on getting on get one of the new models that features the FlexForce cables. They look less stiff than the orignal X-Connect. But for the price there are better PSU out there like the OCZ series. I also like Coolermaster PSU even if I own a CoolermasterRealPower 550.
Some Antecs are alright. I would stay away from the Antec HE series PSU. The HE PSU that come with the Antec P150 cases are horrible. Pretty much all users found that the PSU that came with the P150 case were dead and not working. I have had 2 experiences where the PSU were fixed as the warranty sticker were broken. I wonder how Antec would deal with RMA'ing one of these PSU even if the user didn't break the warranty seal? The smart thing for Antec to do was to reseal the warranty sticker.

I've also got one of the original PSU's and I've had no problems with it at all. The cables are a bit on the stiff side but the new version isn't nearly as bad. Basicly just read around and read as many current reviews to see how the current versions are doing.

I've never used one myself, but from what I've read since they first started to really appear on the scene, it's basically a 50/50 chance with them. Although I think it really depends on what you'll be putting that PSU through. Maybe they work well mid range systems without much overclocking and maybe they are not efficient enough for high-end and moderately overclock systems. Like I said, I've never owned one, my opinions are based on what I've read.
Personally I couldn't go with a PSU towards which people have such mixed feelings about. I need to know I'm getting a completely solid and dependable PSU. Not a PSU from which half of the stories I read or hear are horror stories.
Never skimp on the PSU, it's one of the most, if not the most, important component of your rig. The stability and well functioning of a PC (especially OCed rigs) depends a lot on a good stable and efficient PSU.

The problem with Ultra PSUs and any of their other products is that they don't make anything themselves, it's all contracted out. From what I've seen from them is that they seem to lean towards the 100% lowest bidder when it comes time to renew the contract. This can and does have a adverse affect on the overall reliability of their products. One production run could be a totally super product and the next could be total crap.
But like I said, mine has been great, but it was from the first production run and there have been bad batches sold. If you deside to get one, read all the current reviews that you can find. I've heard that the latest version is supposed to be pretty good.
