ATI is trying to reduce the large amouint of power that graphic cards need .
using a new drivers they manged to drop the power from 112W to 103W on X1800XT
it is step in good direction

I definitely would like to see them drop it more. I'm having big problems with the X1900XT's in Crossfire.

actually the problem isn't necessarily the W but the amps it needs. In crossfire-mode they need at least 38A on the 12V line.

I got a Silverstone Zeus 680W ST65 PSU. It has quad 12V lines with a total of 55A on them together. However, I don't know how they combine when it needs a lot more.

A single X1900XTX requiers (according to the info included in the HIS X1900XTX I have) 30A on the 12V line so I'm getting that at least.

I'm probably gonna hook up a second PSu temporarily to supply power to the second card so I can finish the benchmarks. Then I'm gonna wait for a better PSU if i want to run this everyday.

this decribes exactly the problem i was talking in another post
about the card manufacturer should give the option of connecting the with an out power supply like Printer\Scanner or such and not make us buy a very stron power supply
the bigger the power supply the bigger the magnetic field it createsthat can interfere with other devices
