How do you compress one of the most intense war experiences ever made into 100KB and in resolutions of 176X208 pixels or less?
Seems like mission impossible (maybe we should get Tom Cruise ;))...

Overview
Well, Mforma (works for a long time beside Activision) took this mission and dared creating such a game.
The result ? Though brings no competition to the PC version -:o-, it is still one of the best war games ever released for the mobile market.
One step ahead of the current rulers: Brothers in Arms and Conflict: Vietnam.

Problems? there are a few...
The graphics are not too bright...
The reason is to have more content instead of better graphics.
Also, there are some slow segments when stuff gets busy, buggy levels like a level that refuses to let you scroll the screen, stupid AI in some cases...
fortunately, the bugs are not too severe and do not affect the overall game play.

A long game, in terms of Mobile games
Mforma made a fantastic job, when looking at the game's content, in such a small package.
Just for the comparison:
Brothers in Arms had 6 short-medium levels in two environments.
In CoD2 for cellular, just like the original, you may fight as Russian, British or American soldier, in 12 long levels taking place in 4 different environments - snow, forest, desert and city.
The game is designed pretty good and very challenging.
There are Saving Points after each level, but the levels are designed well enough so it won't be too frustrating.
In the end, we get a pretty long game for cellular, about 4 hours.

Atmosphere gets negatively affected...
The point that CoD2 for mobile has no chance against his big PC brother, is the sound, which is very limited in J2ME.
In spite of that fact, there is a feeling that Mforma could do a better job in that aspect.
The pace of the game is a bit down, the feeling of the weapons is like they are not THAT destructive.
A little more bombings, action, pressure and adrenaline would really help restoring the atmosphere that this game is so famous for.

Summary
CoD2 really manages to be surprising, fun and challenging.
If you use mobile for games, be sure to check this one out, you won't regret it! :)
