According to the news at theinquire, the new x1900 from ati is such a good card that in order for NV to beat it, it needs to clock the G71 at clockspeed higher than 700Mhz.
I wonder if NV will really clock their card at that high speed. I hope even if NV beats ATI, it will still try to keep the card cool enough as well as quiet enough and does not consume that much power.

A SOURCE who understands the graphic marchitecture and the manufacturing process have confirmed that Nvidia needs to clock its G71 to very high frequency to match ATIs X1900 XTX flagship offering.
ATI is happily shipping its R580, Radeon X1900 generation cards where the fastest are running at 650 MHz, and it is not running cool. ATI managed to ship some of the X1800 based cards running at 700 MHz out of the box but it could not ship tens of thousands of those.

Personally, I don't care who's better than who. ATI or nVidia. Makes no difference to me.

As long as they keep trying to outgun each other I, the consumer, will be happy.

When time comes to get a card, I find a price point for performance that I can live with, then I try to get the most bang for my buck.

Loyalty be damned!

unfortunately, I've noticed, by the time I wait for prices to fall enough to buy, the item in question is gone from the shelves, so then I'm back to square 1 again.

That's exactly what happened to me waitin' for the price of the 3Dfx Voodoo 5000 to go down.

It disappeared from the shelves because the company went out of business. :?

I know. I know.

They must not resist.

They will be assimilated.

i totally agree with you if you wait for a killer card to lower prices it will go off pruduction and from stires only thngs you can get after a long time are only low end cards - see the case with the 5200,6200 and such
this will continue ven after a long time

It seems that Nvidia is going to do the same as ATI R520, they are going to crank up clocks in order to be competitive, maybe, they are preparing G80, which will be the first dx10 card. 8)

About the prices of the card, I also waited a lot of time for a geforce 6800 256Mb to be cheaper. The result is I canīt find that card for AGP anymore or if there is one, itīs very expensive

I think in today's market, the price of the high end/midrange are not dropping as fast as they used to be. I think people are more willing to spend a bit extra for the new product. In addition, the fact that each gen's product does not bring such a big performance boost as it used to be, hence with each release, the price of "old" product does not drop in price.
